"Traitors within the Ranks"
I was looking at the record of the crimes committed and crimes solved in the last month. Even without including the recent arrests of the Magi, crime was up. The people of the city were becoming ever more animal like. I feared something dreadful was coming for us. The door slammed shut as three Mage Hunters came into the head-quaters with a look of pleasure on their faces. What sick bastards they were, finding enjoyment from effectively sentencing innocents and criminals alike to death. The man in the middle coughed, so I looked up. I ignored them for a few more seconds as I closed the records.
"Gentlemen? How can I help you?"
The man in the centre of the three looked at my face with sheer distrust and perhaps even a sense of loathing. "I am Gareth Molos, I assume you can guess why I am here."
"Molos? I thought you were just a name created to scare those who practised magic. I never thought you were real."
"Oh I am very real Thorwind, so very real. Now tell me, where is Adonis Lightfeather."
"That is confidential information, and you do not have the authority to know."
"Really? You heard what the Mage said at the Gallows. Adonis has been helping them! Thus he is a traitor, so I think I have the authority to take this information."
"How dare you accuse one of my most trusted men of being a traitor! Do you really believe that old fool James Bennett? You know as well as I do, he would say anything to save his own hide?"
"Of course not, but it didn't save his.. 'hide' did it? At any rate I must investigate every suspect. It is my job and this hunt will also be my pleasure. You see, your men here at the Black Hawk Guard are a disgrace to the King and the City. Once I can prove Adonis was in with the Black Sun, you and your men will be stripped of your positions and thrown in a cell. So tell me Thorwind, where is Adonis?"
"Bah, it is Lord Commander Thorwind to you! Remember I am still your superior, even if you are part of the King's cult of Mage Hunters! I will not tell you."
"I'll give you one last warning, I have 40 men outside this building. All they need is the signal and they will come in to slaughter every last one of you!"
"Is that a threat?"
"Yes it was, what are you going to do?"
"Finley go find Harriet. When you have her find Adnois as well."
"Yes sir!" Finley left within moments.
"Now Molos, I have had enough of your attitude. I want you out of my sight, now!"
"Hahaha, you think you can boss me around so easily? I'll have your head!"
"You cannot kill me without your own life being taken as well. Liam, escort this oaf out of the building.."
"With pleasure." Liam made his way towards the bastard.
"You are right Thorwind, I cannot kill you. But this guard here means nothing to the King." Molos' hammer was swung around cracking on Liam's head. The guard fell down crying in pain, he was left for dead.
"What are you doing? You are under arrest for assulting a guard!"
"I think not! Men kill the rest of these pathetic people."
"The King will not stand for this!"
"Oh, then you do not know your own King very well."
Molos was right. I didn't know my King very well because here I am in a cell. Waiting for the King to see reason and release me. Though I do wonder if I will still be sane when he does...
