NOW SUPPORTS AI!!!



A map based on Mad Balls Arena. I made it for a comp on our local server. The idea of the map is to pickup items known as orbs and throw them at enemies. These orbs make use of custom coded physics and return to item form after dealing damage or coming to a stop.

Special Thanks to CraZy.FroG for both his ideas and since this map is based on his map Mad Balls Arena.


Features



AI
Orb Craft contains AI to test your skills.

Orb Based Combat
Fight in a team by throwing orbs at one another. Orb Craft currently contains 10 different orb: Acid, Arcana, Blood, Darkness, Fire, Force, Frost, Holy, Lightning, Void and Water each with its own effects, mass and friction. There is now also 7 recipe orbs (Clockwork, Glaive, Winter, Phoenix, Nature, Rune and Toxic)

Spells
Orb Craft also contains a selection of spells that uses the physics engine in the map. It currently has 22 spells.

Heroes
You can now select an hero as well, each with its own play style.

Large Selection of Items
Orb Craft currently has 10 permanent items and 10 charged items.

Fast Action
My goal with Orb Craft has always been to make it a fast game and I intend to keep it that way, by making it a key crunching race to the orbs with dodge and throw style combat. The spells only serve as a change of pace.

Various Game modes
Orb Craft currently has 4 games modes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Harbinger (bring the Orb of Destruction to the enemy base to score a point) and King of the Hill (Gain points while standing on a elevated area.

ZOMG...the hook was pissing me off....so I deleted it.....I tried to imitate the Pugies hook...then I found that the physic system I used has spring physics (ZOMG....).....and after creating a decent chain...which took me hours....It started to fly around.....and I had to controll it using void....:p....The main prob was lag....

WHAT? somebody commented on my map.....:O impossible.....I'll start working again after the exams....Adding AI is hard....but not impossible.....I might make an AI version

Thanks for the fast response. I'll look into it and will fix it as soon as possible. :p

I also noticed that Symbol of Warding appears to be bugged and will update as soon as I fixed Fire Orb.

Fixed Friendly fire that everyone wanted me to fx months ago.
Also the Book of Black magic now grants 15% life steal instead of 20%,
:p Still don't know whats wrong with orb of fire. It works well with my testing :p if you experience it again with the new version it would be great if you could send me the replay.

:p i'm busy....but progress is SLOW due to exams....:p ...

Currently they seem to have a hard time noticing when a missile is moving in their direction (must have screwed up something)
and won't pickup items :p

I had some really imba ideas :D.You can change the map size to big or large so you will be able to create more arenas because now there is one arena for each mode.Maybe making all the arenas for all modes ? or making more arenas for each mode?.

Every turn there will be a different new random arena (it may happen to be the same arena twice on some turns but no problem) or let the host choose the arena on startup (but this one is very complicated)

The new Ai map is IMBA but in harbinger mode when you have the Orb that has to reach enemies' base all the allied ai follow you and if u go near a wall they can surround you and you are unable to move.Also the enemies target always the carrier of the ORB which is kinda annoying if u are at YOUR base and they just come from their base to kill you, ignoring all the other enemies that meet when they hunt the carrier and this one can make them die easily.

When game is over u get a: GAME OVER Red Won message but when blue team wins it's just with white characters: GAME OVER Blue Won
Add a better end plz . The paused screen sucks

Really awesome idea. I'll implement it once i have at least 3 maps for each gametype. You'll then choose on startup between Map 1, Map 2,Map 3 or Random (where random will switch each time it enters combat)

....only now that you pointed it out I realized how much the end SUCK. I'll colorize the text and.....well... any ideas how to make the end better? I thought maybe i should keep track of like most total damage dealt, most damage dealt in one life, most damage taken, most kills, most deaths etc...and then display everything in the end :p like:

[PlayerName] dealt most damage scaling up to a total of [X]
Most damage in one life goes to [PlayerName] with [X] damage
[PlayerName] has the most deaths with a total of [X] deaths
...

I might even add a counter counting how many orbs miss and how many orbs you throw hit....displaying your accuracy. :p Still need ideas for a good ending...

Edit : My map got approved :p Ftw...Chances are I'll only be able to update my map in two weeks. I'm currently writing exams.

What do u mean with this?

Also all the stats should be with [PlayerName] for the first word just to look better.
That was what i thought about ending but the miss/hit stat make it like this:
[PlayerName] accuracy XX% (X=number from 1-100)

About any ideas for arenas can't give u any bcs i just test maps , i can't create any kind of map bcs i am not the type of guy who will try to learn how Wold Editor works.
But i can tell u something, just start drawing some lanes on a paper and try to make look like a map and if u like it go create it :D

Add a -random code for a single person if he wants to get a random hero(a friend of mine was the inspiration of this :D he is addicted to -random lol)

AIs sometimes stand in a strange way that their orbs stop on their allies who are next to them.Imagine two heroes one next to other they throw orbs on an enemy who has the same distance from both of them (the enemy isn't from the side that only one of them can shot and hit him) , their orbs will hit (without dealing dmg )its ally.If this happens on large fights they just spamm orbs doing nothing and being a perfect pray for a human brain or another Ai who comes from another way

Okay I've been working hard while i should be studying for exams and so far I added selection of maps via the Keyboard....there is also two new maps...one very small map with teleporters and one large map with trees with fully functional physics.

Death match or Team Deathmatch:
Ruined Temple (default map)
Isles (default ffa map)
Protals (new very small map for 2-4 players)
Forest Frenzy (new large map with trees)

King of the Hill
Broken Steps (default map)

Harbinger
Tranquility (default map + need a name)

I'll add more maps once i get some ideas. New version will also contain some ai fixes, random hero feature, selection of Orb Spawning (Random (new)/ Static Locations).

I'll upload once i get time to work again.

If is was to go on the blue team, the AI that would choose would choose which game mode would not choose at all. So what I suggest, is that you make it able for the player to choose which game mode, regardless of the team they are on, cuz I wanna see the blue team's heroes D:

New orb idea:

Orb of Oblivion (you can only buy it)

The player throws an orb of oblivion at the ground near the target(s), pulling them near a whirlpool (?). As they get pulled in, they receive 5 damage per second, and when they enter the middle, it causes 25 damage, and stunning them for 5 seconds.

Hehe, yeah, really stupid...xD

I still didnt play the map cuz my warcraft broke down so Im sorry if I suggest something that is ingame already
Anyways

Ideas:

Weakness Orb: Armor reduction AOI
Banishment Orb: Teleports the Target to a Separate Map and Then ports him back
Fire, Water, Lighting Wall Orb: Applies effects to a straight line instead of AOI

Enviroment effects for maps Ex: Fire burns you, Shallow water slows you down, etc.

In which version are you going to put the accuracy , kills, deaths board?
Played with a mate and we both enjoyed it very much ,but AI's pwned both times .
The new map with the tropical terrain and trees was pretty good but it was unable to throw an orb behind the trees bcs trees had collision with orbs , so if someone hides him self behind some trees he can easily avoid any incoming orbs.I prefer to keep it this way but it was kinda annoying.
Waiting for more arenas

Banishment Orb: Teleports the Target to a Separate Map and Then ports him back

Hmmm intereseting :D...might add it altough Void orb currently teleport target to a random point in the map

Fire, Water, Lighting Wall Orb: Applies effects to a straight line instead of AOI

:O! A wall-orb....awesome altough i don't know how i would add it.

Enviroment effects for maps Ex: Fire burns you, Shallow water slows you down, etc.

NOW THATS AWESOME :D.....ftw...Just had this awesome idea.....I'll cause some orbs to interact with some terrain.....Water Orbs might deal 75 damage if the target is within water. Orbs of Fire might...i dono....deal reduced damage or something...

The AI some times at the time out spawn around you and you can't go anywhere because AIs don't move at time out, so you can't go anywhere or you can't shop.

The arena with the teleporters has some ''bugs'' for example at the left lower corner sometimes you can't go up to the higher level terrain and the hero goes from the other site, maybe making the site there a bit bigger.There are some other like this but i can't descripe them, i will try to get you a screenshot.

Also when you choose an arena make the minimap to show only the arena and not the entire map (I am not sure , you might already have this)

I have the screens i told you about.I couldn't upload them as they were so i zipped them.
At the first one while your hero is there if you order him to go at the red spot he will just go from the other way as the green arrow shows.If you order him to move at the blue spot he will go there normally.
At the second one , sometimes the hero goes from the other way instead of moving straight forward maybe making the place not so narrow would fix the promblem

Thanks for the screens. I don't know if i fixed it, but I made some of the areas less narrow and changed the teleport distance and it haven't bugged yet. I also removed the minimap icons. I also realized that my King of the Hill map is actually a great map for Harbinger....so you can now play harbinger in Broken Steps as wel. Also did some changes so that I can in future versions make it possible to reselect game type/maps.

I'll update this post as i work :)

Add a first blood message and an extra bonus gold and lumer for first kill.
Maybe adding messages for player who has many kills without any deaths.

I had some more suggestions but i forgot them :S

Edit: Only host can see the maps from higher (when you have to choose them ) but other players can't see it like host and they can't say if they like or not the arena.

Also can you add a restarting system so it can allow more modes to be played without remaking?

The telekinis item doen't work (at least when it's upgrated to lvl 2).

Still can't remember what suggestions i had , i just signed in to post for the arenas ''bug'' but i found some good ideas :D
