Team Tower Survival


Hello fellow creators and welcome to OMFG 1 Billion Ghouls!
The Team Tower Survival map created by Saintbob.


Story

While on a mining expedition, you and three others venture deep into an unknown cave system in search of new discoveries and rich treasures.
You all venture deep into the cave knowing you are the first to explore this vast system. Before you know it, you've all delved deeper than you all agreed to go, and now looking back you realize that you've lost your way and are unsure on which path to take to reach the surface once more.
Pick in one hand and candle in the other, believing there must be a way out, you push forward and onward, deeper.

Soon after, you start to smell a change in the air, it starts to smell dank and stale, the cave walls feel wet and sticky to touch. The cave walls becoming wider and open, you start to sense something isn't right.

Moving forward a chill travels down your spine, and the hair on the back of your neck start to stand up. In the distance nothing but darkness, you can just make out the faint architecture of the cave around you.

suddenly, in the corner of your eye you see what looks to be something move in the distance. Approaching with caution pick ready in your hand you move in on the something that moved. Candle in the other hand now stretched out in front of you, you finally get a glimpse of the thing lurking deep within.

Hunched over, covered in rags and dripping with excrement the monster appears to be feasting on something or someone, it slowly starts to turn its head towards your candle light. Suddenly it drops its chunk of flesh in its mouth onto the floor, and leaps towards you, pick in your hand you lunge forward, hoping and praying that you land a hit. Success, you impale the beast with the pick deep into its chest. You deliver a fatal blow and the monster takes its final few breaths, its dead.

You take a moment to recover from the shock and regain your bearings when suddenly you hear an almighty screech from deep within that sounded like an army of monsters.

You turn from the chilling sounds and run as fast as you can, unsure of where you are going only knowing to run away from those screeches you find yourself in a deep chasm, you run through the vast openness to realize the terrible truth, You are surrounded!

Game Mechanics
  • OMFG 1 Billion Ghouls is a 4 Player Team Tower Defense Map.

  • Players spawn and place a destructible Alter that they must defend at all costs.Shortly after the game starts, a wave of Ghouls will enter the map from all directions and descend on the players attacking anything and everything owned by the players.

  • Players must build towers to defend against each wave of Ghouls and protect their Alter from destruction.

  • Each wave doubles the amount of Ghouls spawned, and increases base HP and Base Attack, some waves my even have abilities.

  • Every 4th wave a Mini Boss Ghouls will spawn creating a harder challenge for the players.

  • The Alter will be used to upgrade your towers, other buildings and even the Alter itself.

  • Win conditions are to beat each wave and then the final wave

  • Lose conditions to have their Alter destroyed

Game Mechanics


Terrain Map - 75% complete - Current terrain may need slight alteration to fit the story line. - Completion Stage

Triggers - 90% Complete - Almost all triggers are implemented and fully working, Wave system completed. - Completion Stage

Player Structures - 10% Complete - Requires custom towers and buildings to be designed and created - Development Stage

Upgrades - 0% Complete - Requires full development of player upgrades to upgrade Towers, Buildings and the Alter - Idea Stage

Current Version

Version 0.07
-Wave system 90% implemented.
-15 Waves of increasing Ghouls and difficulty.
-Some waves now have resistances to certain elements, such as Fire, Frost, Poison.
-Started the foundations of the towers for 2 out of 4 races, FrostBeard Dwarves and FireBeard Dwarves.
-Towers deal elemental damage, according to which race the player picks.
-Race selection time period at start of game implemented.
-Players pick 1 of 4 races (2 races partially implemented) from the Siege tank at start of game.
-Some models for Race Builders imported and set.

Required Help

Model Artist
- I require help with models of units and buildings. If you feel like you can create/design models for a Dwarven themed map, I want to hear from you!
Currently I need models for...
-All 4 Race builders (Dwarven all with different looks and themed around their element.
-Dwarven style buildings for the Races towers
-Different types of Ghoul Models

When I did read the title I imagined that it would be based on mechanics of ghouls pushing each other flooding the place as if they were water with high pressure.
Sadly in that td it is extremely unlikely with the mechanics you gave that a player could kill 1 billion ghouls.

You are pretty much on the ball with the idea of Ghouls flooding the place.
Yeah it is pretty unlikely that a player or 4 players no less, could infact kill 1 billion ghouls. However the map is designed in such a way that it truly feels by the last wave that there really has been a billion ghouls.

I just need someone who can create some triggers in order to bring the map to life.

It would be possible to kill 1 billion ghouls if we could have more powerful computers and have massive amounts of area of effect towers and that the ghouls can stack in 3 D and push each other(so that there is always ghouls close to the towers) and overlap.
we would still need ridiculous amounts of time to do that.
do you think making this td be 3d with piles of ghouls and walls of variable height to be interesting?

For example we can double the number of visible ghouls relatively to the number of units by using the chest attachment of a ghoul to attach another ghoul.
then we use flying heights to have another stack of two ghouls above the first one and we have a stack of 4 ghouls.
A cool thing is that if all the ghouls are 0 size and use flying separation groups they automatically push each other then we use multiple separation groups for the varied heights of ghouls and then we could have some trigger to allows those ghouls to go above walls that have a lower rank than their height.
so the two first heights are "walking" then "flying" then there is the "flying + pushing through walls triggers" heights
The two first layers are not as hard to do(we only need some form of attachment or height gain of ghouls on one layer when they reach critical volume and unstacking/ height loss when the density gets low).

Did you get inspiration for the name from starcraft maps with similar names?

I may can give you helping hand with the map depends how complicated you want the wave system and AI.
Sounds like "they are bilions" game too.

Also since i dont have any more specific informations i cant give you ideas for buildings and stuff.
So i suggest to add random world generator.

Heya noob again, your points seem very interesting and I do like a few of them. However I think my idea of the name 1 billion ghouls is not to be taken literally. It’s just meant to suggest that there are a lot of ghouls.

As for the map name, I originally created this map some years ago, before the Starcraft 2 map was created. However I am aware that there was an original Starcraft map with a similar idea. I give them full credits for the idea.

I can give you the link to download the map that I created a few years ago. The only reason I’m not using it, is because the map is protected by me, and I ended up deleting the original map when I upgraded the pc. No reforged is coming kinda got

To be honest fintrik, the wave system doesn’t need to be complicated at all.

If you are willing to lend me a hand I can clearly explain the wave system I would like implemented.

Building and upgrades etc I can arrange myself as long as the code mechanics are in place. If you have skype or something similar let me know and we can discuss it further.

There have been a tradition to do a lot of ofmg the 9999 X in starcraft 1.
I believe one of them actually had 9999 of the thing with each of them having 1 more hit point than the previous one.

Yeah I vaguely remember playing something like that. But I don’t remember it being as custom as this map will be with all the different towers and custom upgrades.

It depends on the kind of world you want.
Usually it place destructibles and make elevation changes at random but if you wanted you could make something a bit more complex that would try to make walls and stuff like that.

Nice, sounds good, think that might be a good idea. Think I’ll stick with the basic map for now until I get the core mechanics spot on then I could look at that. I love the sound of every time you play the map it’s a different ‘seed’

Take Inspiration from MineralZ for example, on some regions there are randomly placed obstacles at some minimum and maximum ammount, but players should have option to break those obstacles, it would make the map more skillful and less repetettive.
Or you can make world presets.

That sounds really interesting. I’d love to have something like that for the map. Would make it pretty unique and different every time.

I’ll work discord out and try to add you over the next couple of days. I’m at work today and tomorrow. But I’ll try add you between now and then.

Just letting everyone know, the map has been heavily worked on!
Version 0.7 is in development, please see in development spoiler for full details.
Once all 4 races have foundation towers, I will start to balance it. And put an Alpha version for people to give feedback.

Hey man seems like a really cool map you have here. Just wanted to notify that I've been inspired by this and get ready to have a competitor in similair genres closer to the time when warcraft reforged releases.;)
