I have 2 [passive] abilities that do not show icons (they are based on item abilities, switched off, so I think that has something to do with it).
I did some searching, and came up with just using a blank attribute ability for the show. However, I need those ability 2 slots that this would take up (I will eventually have all the available ability slots taken up).
I do recall seeing an option to hide icons, but it has gone missing (I used it, recorded using it, but now can't find it). Was I going crazy? Or did it exist for a short period of time (recently)?

Here's my question: Do I really have to recreate my abilities , or is there a way to show the icons?
If I end up having to recreate them, is there a bonus vision/bonus health ability that's not an item ability?

If your ability does not show icon, and it still has effect, just make an ability that based on "Evasion" with all the ratio of 0% that describes the effect of your "real" ability

I need all available ability slots (there are 6 I believe). None to spare :bored:

Are you sure your item abilities are taking up slots? If they aren't showing up as icons they might not be taking up that space you need.

If your'e running out of space, you could consider using the Spellbook ability to store multiple related abilities inside.

Could you give those abilities to actual items and give them to the hero?

those item abilities will not show up on your unit's UI... and also they will not take up a space in the unit's UI. so if you want to show them, you can use the method you have thought of, using blank passive abilities...

you can just add the blank passive abilities once your hero learns the passive item spell... then just set their level to the level of the learned spell...
