Greetings,

I've come here in search for answers about a fascinating ability. The lack of documentation on this has simply awe-struck me.

This ability in question is none other than the "Mechanical Critter".
It is a hero item used to spawn a random critter that can be controlled much like any ordinary unit except unlike any ordinary unit this "Critter" appears as Neutral to your foes.
Not only that but completely hides the player identity.

I was wondering if this kind of mechanic could be applied to other units or buildings, most notably Walls.

Is there any way you can manipulate this ability? Or is it simply hard codded to only work the way it was intended.

I for one would like to know the answer.

you can upgrade/morph the critter any way you want and he keeps his neutrality. use 'limit training of unit' and 'set upgrade progress to 99%' to make it hidden and fast.

there's also a weird mechanic where he draws aggro when hes attacking but enemies won't remember him if he goes near them again after losing that aggro.

also, the unit counts as 'neutral' for spell targeting. some spells require/block based on this.

"neutral" target isnt a proper target unless specified directly within targets list, and furthermore it causes engine to ignore ally/enemy checks further. So if you allow to cast Hex ability onto neutrals, you will be able to cast Hex even on allied mech critter
