What exaclty causes mac users to crash on some maps. I looked around and only found that custom icons make mac users crash. Is there anything else?

macs are notoriously incompatible with windows applications

As what gorilla said, War3 in someways is incompatible with Mac. Yes, you can still dl it but will cause random crashes for no reason its due to... as what I say it is not really in someway compatible with Mac.

The main crash is from icons. I know there is a crash with certain maps when loaded on a mac (e.g. Gaia's Retaliation, Shadows of the Past), but I haven't looked for what the source of the crash is.
It may have something to do with the icons after all, or BLP's in general:

Weep is pretty much the saint for mac-users.
Most of the other crashes are rumors. Some were actually fixed in specific patches (e.g. 1.24c "Fixed a crash when using the CreateImage native on PPC Mac."), but Blizzard is often vague about it that we don't have a proper record of what crashes anymore.
