North Koreans suffer and they need some kind of democracy, after all these years of dictatorship. He seemed a normal leader, not from the crazy ones you know. Either way it's about time they introduced internet and took example from their southern neighbors and develop eSports.

Kim Join Il may have had his flaws, but what Human being does not?

I also believe we should be careful when accusing Kim Jong Il of censoring and such, since us westerns aren't a bit better ourselves. At least the Koreans don't pretend they're living in a democracy unlike European and US citizens.

what? do you know the official name of the country?do you know what DPRK stands for?
i'm the first to bash america's oppressive ways, but comparing it to north korea's is an insult to all those who lived and died under the rule of kim jong il and his father.

EDIT: if you want an eastern autoritarian state to defend and praise, singapore is your country, there is no going wrong with singapore. they're one of the least corrupt nations on the world, with the highest average quality of life in asia, and no reports of human rights abuses. all this while being socialist, having no elections or claim to democracy, and enforcing a degree of censorship. much more than most democratic states, nominally or otherwise, can claim

democracy usually implies bad management, but i'd prefer terrible management to being ruled by a psychopath megalomaniac and having no means of overthrowing him, which is what usually happens with autocratic governments.

i couldn't care less for the bastard that was kim jong il, but laughing at people who were either brainwashed or threatened and forced to enact this scene seems wrong

Dayum! so much ignorance goin on in this thread.

I honestly believe there was so much backdoor politics going on in North Korea to which no one would really know what the hell is going on, so with that said..

May Kim Jong Il Rest, yes just "Rest" not "rest in peace" cause i don't know if he was a bad guy, or good guy. I believe thats fair :)

What, Democracy isn't bad, half of europe is just doing it wrong, look at Italy & Greece, fucking idiots, it's not the leaders fault, it's the people not doing a shit sitting there expecting something good and choosing bad leaders.

Not saying democracy is the best thing but being punished if you haven't cried enough for the leader, seriously?? And North Koreans love that regime?

When its the only thing you've known in your life, you think its normal. Its just like cases were a child becomes violent towards women because he's watched his father beat his mother. For him, its what he's thought to be considered "acceptable", and therefore repeats it.
