Karaoke-making software?

I was about to open this in Off-Topic, but realised that this might be the better forum.

Are there any good, preferably free, pieces of software for creating karaoke files? I already tried AV Karaoke Video Maker, but I don't seem to understand how to make it work as the only working button is "Exit". I have the instrumental that I need.
