Hi, I haven´t used World Editor for almost 2 years. Now I want to make something again, but I´m not sure if it´s still popular and if my map can find enough players
Well, you should come and join our fellow modders here. While the player base is low, you can still garner the public's attention by creating quality maps. Try starting a project at the Map Development section and let everyone see your project map if you have one.
To answer that question, it's popular of some sort but it will solely depend on your map's quality. Is it a map that features good new things or is promising? Just my two cents regarding the topic here.
If your map is good, people will play it. If you want to play it, people will come. There are many different gaming systems that people use to find each other as Battle.net is not used as much anymore. Also, you can find some friends to play with on our two most recent affiliates http://www.diplomunion.com/ and http://www.brigandshaven.net/ as both have lots of players.
I think a good part of a website like this is that if you engage in it, you're practically guaranteed support, help and a playerbase for your map. You need to put a lot of effort in, so it's up to you how well it is utilised. Good luck, and hit me up sometime if you ever want players. ^^
This is the biggest problem in my opinion.
I see this topic very negative because there are so many maps having a great concept, offering enjoyable gameplay and being near perfectly executed. Of course, this is my personal impression, but there are so many maps that aren't played on BattleNet although they are great, speaking of a personal rating of 4/5 up to 6/5.
If you enjoy map-making, then go ahead. If you advertise your map enough, then it is surely often played, but don't expect your map being played from the very beginning.

Let me put it this way.
1: You got to make enough friends in the forum so they can spread a good rumor about your map. This way you will get less trolls in your maps blackmailing you.
2: You will need new texture skins or even models if you are to impress those people in this site specifically. Using old models/textures from the original game turns out to make people here react harshly on your map even if you did something impressive on a FREE to play map.
Overall if you enjoy making maps, then do so. Otherwise - not worth it if you dont meet the requirements 1 and 2.
I decided for a first episode to talk about some maps that I've played over the years. Ones that really hit me as well designed with interesting mechanics. Thought I'd share it here.
Modedit: I decided to merge this post with this thread as otherwise it would just be plain advertising. I feel as if it could genuinely contribute to this thread, though. - Ash
Well, I actually still think mapmaking is still popular, just like moddlers for games out there. They just need more recognization. I usually recommend some good maps for my friends on Garena, and they really appreciate it.
There are a lot of wc3 mapmakers here and there.
Sadly, most great and meticulous mapmakers end up losing motivation on their project. That's why sometimes, making a map takes a year or two just to regain motivation.
