How do you make a simple unit have an Inventory?

give it the ability "Inventory (Human/Orc/Nightelf/Undead)" without techtree requirements, or if the units should be able to use the items, either modify one of those abilities, create a new one, or give them the ability "Inventory (Hero)"

give them Inventory (Hero) ability

Be careful when using Inventory(Hero) on non-heroes, picking up tomes with such unit will crash the game. You should make a new inventory ability from one of the unit inventory abilities.
