Yes, I think what you describe is just a flat plane with a texture on it, facing upward.
Or if you want it to be billboarded (always facing the camera), leave it to face toward X and check the tag of its bone to "bollboarded"
Open War3 Model Editor , open its MPQ browser, load some icon from it, and change the texture to something else

Thanks would this be easy for a newbie to do? I know nothing about model making but i have a lot experience making 2d art. Here is an idea of what i imagined. Its not the game in making but its giving a good idea and then i want to make it round instead of square. I was thinking about giving them an aura in game to make it a little bit more interesting looking or is there other suggestions for when they for example is fighting?

How do i find the MPQ? there is nothing in the MPQ browser. Where are they locate?
