I've been working on a city map (you may call it Loap, Real life, life simulator, RPG, any term is accurate) for some time, but it becomes kinda hard for me to brainstorm some content of the game. Below I list some things I'd like to have in my map in great amounts. So bring any ideas you have!

I need:
  • Random NPC Conversations
  • Side/Minor Quests/Requests
  • Bosses (This term refers to big tough guys, accidents, catastrophes, happenings that can be beaten)
  • Jobs and its Reward Skill/Item (Not needed at all, but welcome)
  • And of course, any gameplay element you suggest for it

1. NPC Conversations would be nice. Like if you speak to 1 type of unit, a random sentence it flashed at the screen. It you talk to them a lot, maybe they start saying ridiculous things or become your friend.

2. Minor Quests would be good. Maybe some normal villagers ask you then if you accomplish it you are rewarded with anything. Maybe gold or an item. It varies. It could be like a teacher asking for you to catch students committing truancy. Or something else.

3. Bosses would not look good. Maybe accidents, catastrophes, events could be good. Maybe make it Sim-like. There is a change to be a nuclear meltdown, alien invasion, etc. Maybe the bosses would be only if you joined the gang there.

4. Jobs and skills are a must for me in every city map. You should have stuff like hunter, farmer, banker, etc. But to be better, you need to work your way up. Maybe at the start you are studying at college but you stopped. Then the jobs for you would be stuff like Janitor, Hunter, Farmer, Waiter, etc. But the more Job Experience you get, the better jobs you can get.

5. The gameplay should be fun. Have good replayability. Maybe make it better than those other LoaP maps. Try making it like Sims as best as you can.

Thanks for your suggestions and opinions, but I would like to have specific ideas. What I mean is, to post an idea like a side quest where you talk to someone to bring you X, but this X is given by robbing someone else, things like that. Same applies for other stuff ^^

Ok, here are some:

1. Big Bully - A student's mother is complaining about a bully on her son's school and the mother is willing to pay you x gold for hitting the bully, unseen.

2. Bear-Scared - A local hunter was asked to hunt a bear and kill them for their fur. But he is to scared since it is the season where their population grows. He wants you to kill for bears for him, in return he gives you a gun which he treasures.

3. Sneak - The Police are giving you money if you sneak in the local gang's house and discover their next plans. If you do this, you automatically can get a Police Job or a Soldier Job.

4. Biggest Catch - Fishermen are losing their jobs because a giant fist living in the local river is eating and almost finishing the fishes population. This anxious fisherman would give you his best rod just to make you catch it.

5. Sports Fan - A sports fan really wants to get a ticket for the upcoming football show. But the line seems to be too long. He is asking if you could buy for him from a dealer and in reward, he would give you something special.

Boss idea:

Two rival gangs who spend their time beating the crap out of each other. The player has several options: Kill both gangleaders, work with one to destroy the other before betraying them, or even arranging for the leaders to kill each other.

Jobs:

Messenger: get messages/items to a certain person in time
Assassin: kill a certain person in the manner required (silently, make it look like an accident, leave an object behind so everyone knows who ordered the killing, messily...)
Entertainer: Keep the crowd entertained with your skills (magic, skills, etc.)

NPC:

Have NPCs in conversation with each other concerning recent events (especially if the player had something to do with it), giving clues as to what the player needs to do next, etc.

Those are cool ideas! I liked a lot the rival gangs event! (I already +repped you in gratitude ;))

I'm almost done with the first wave of Blindman's ideas, so I'll be working on these soon. Don't stop giving me your ideas!

P.D. When I said NPCs talks, I was referring to just some fun o random phrases in most cases. But your idea is a pretty good one I didn't had in mind, cleavinghammer.

What are the current jobs now? I can make some for them or current areas.

That reminds me I didn't talk about a special thing regarding jobs. When you keep working on a job, you get a Reward (it is either a skill or item) that helps in performing better in that job and also an extra benefit. I need some Reward ideas too. The jobs are:
  • Doctor (Reward: Skill that heals the target by a certain % if the target is below certain HP.
  • Fireman (Reward: Skill that helps taking down flames, also slowing other kind of enemies in AoE)
  • Waiter/waitress
  • Restaurant chef
  • Marathon advertiser (Reward: Skill that increases user's movement speed, also activates a weak Immolation)
  • Bankguard
  • Mechanic
  • Librarian
  • Bar guard
  • DJ
  • Dog-catcher (Reward: skill that increases the chance to catch dogs passively, also allows to revive a dead pet)

Those skills without rewards, I would like some help for it too ^^

Is there a karma meter system?

No, could you explain more what it is? Just so you know, it will feature Hunger system and Stamina system.

Karma Meter.

Short version is, you act evilly, you get different quests and reactions from people than if you'd been good (For example, rescuing people from a burning building would be good, stealing their possessions then killing them for experience would be bad).

Thus you could set up quests with two possible endings, one good one bad (foil a bank robbery/set up a bank robbery). Though of course some thought would need to go into how they react with each other (for example, bringing in wanted criminals for a bounty would be good, unless you'd broken them out of prison in the first place).

Well Karma/Rep system sound both like good ideas for a more complex game, though right now my priority is to set what I consider the main core, since I still need to fill some areas, set some more jobs, objects, quests, in other words, the main thing if you get my point. Don't get me wrong, I DO like the idea of being a good/bad guy in town, but I'm not gonna develop it right now.

By the way, I still need to give a 'role' to certain empty places: An abandoned building which is in plans to be demolished, the Gun shop, stuff for an Electronics shop, the Town Hall, and a truly empty place which is nothing at all. You could give me a hand in that too ^^

Thanks for all your suggestions, all of you deserve rep. Don't stop suggesting! :D

Those packs will actually help a lot! I'll be having them in hand ^^

How about a radio/tv network that dispenses news? For example, say your character has just saved the burning building, the news would talk about that.

There's already something like it. You can buy a newspaper and know if there is, for example, a building on fire, or if someone saved it and there's not a current crisis, the news report who saved the day :)

I have some ideas for the map :D

  • Church (Adding More Jobs)
  • Fire Department (Adding More Jobs)
  • University (Real Life + Jobs)
  • Mini-Market (Job/s)
  • Factory (Production + Job)
  • Farm (Outskirts of Town,Job,Production,Housing)
  • Museum (Job,Increases Intelligence)
  • Telecommunications (Job and even more with imagination)
  • Butcher Shop (Sells Meat,Job)
  • Clothes Shop (Sells Clothes,Job)
  • Gym (Job,Strength and Agility Increase)
  • Town Hall (Mayor,Town Improvements)
  • Research Station (Technology Improvement)
  • Restaurant Formal (Expensive Prices and Good Job)
  • Fast Food (Very Cheap and Normal Job)
  • Bar (Good Place for Gangsters to hang out and to bet money and play games like at a casino)
  • Militiary Base (Recruitment and Trainning of Soldiers)
  • Bussinesses
Bussinesses... I have thought a lot about this.Bussinesses have a daily gain/loss ratio and it can be positive and negative. Many Players can be in one bussiness and each can get his salary or even be the owner of the bussiness.
    Each Bussiness
    • has a bussiness, company bank (if bank money goes to zero then the company bussiness will have a 5-10 day time to pay the money needed or lose the bussiness along (if u make the reputation system then make the rep of someone drop severely))
    • must have a production of a product (It can be anything)
    • can hire a stock marketer to represent the company at the stock market..
    • 's income will be marked by a formula which will be
Income = (Amount of Products Created This Day * The Price of the Product ) - (Company Workers Salary and Advertisement Fees(Extra) ) * (% of Success of Sales of Product(Can Be Raised by Advertising)

THAT'S ALL I HAVE THOUGHT OF STRUCTURES TILL NOW :grin::grin::grin:

Investing in a bussines sounds actually like a nice idea so people enjoy more visiting the map rather than only working. I'm already think there's a place they can select which product like to sell, how many people want to hire (to increase production) and advertisement/success increase options. All of this in a virtual way, so you won't see that except via Game Text.

Most places you suggested are already in the game, these are the ones I haven't yet and what I think:
Factory: Could you be more specific? Or just a generic factory? How would the job be?
Farm: Not planning this right now because of the current terrain. Probably soon.
Telecommunications: Again, I would like a description about how would the job be, or what function it gives to the game.
Butcher Shop: Sounds good so I can add Meat-type ingredients to it for Cooking. I don't think I will add a job to it for player though.
Research Station: You mentioned Town hall does the same (and I actually had that idea too)
Militiary Base: I thought on this for the future. I wanted the Military job to be an mini-aos game where you can return anytime. Sounds good for your taste?

I appreciatte all the ideas you gave me. Please keep them coming :)

I think about removing the mafia and druglord(or Yakuza) and adding gangs.I'll explain:
There will be three gangs. There will be fights every x mins.If you join a side and fight you will be rewarded with evil karma exp and gold. The more fights the better reward. Also you can add something like reputation and you will advance through ranks.
Btw have you thought about special missions for each side? For cop securing a vip a gang(or mafia) destroying a truck with evidence of the police.

If you want I have some other job's (I don't read older post, so if I copied 1 or 2 job's that already in place, sorry)

Teacher
Detective
Sci-fi Themed Guy
Thief (Hehehe)
Crypt Keeper (I don't know the real word)

Oh, I think you should add a tier (Rank), like =
Fireman Tier :
tier 1- Newbie
tier 2- Fire Catcher
tier 3- Fire Fighter

Some random event's maybe great, like:
earthquake (older post)
tsunami
bear attack
UFO
storm
civil attack
war, or something

oh yeah, bosses : be creative, I think Drunken already made a few....

Big bully
Thief or Criminal's
Alien invasion (Sorry, I'm totally random)
Bear-attack
Maybe soldier's if you're on bad side.....

I suggest that you use a age-meter, specific event's when kid, teenage, adult's, and elderly, be creative and be as original as possible.
I see you got a lot of help.....
