Excuse me, this will sound really stupid, but how the heck do I install mods for WC3?

I have FT and RoC, Battlechest edition, and it's been over 3 or so years, and I still don't even know how to install a mod.

I tried the normal, download-and-open with the editor, but they all get an error. So, I tried putting it in the Maps folder (FT mods in the FT folder, etc, and yes, I downloaded the right ones, no FT mod for RoC or that stuffs).

I just CAN'T figure out how to! Please help me soon!! It's been around 3 years, and I am sick of waiting!

{EDIT}
Zzzz....Please...Help me before...the time comes...of the invasion...

Well, I mean a map, mod, whatever. Sorry, I'm just used to games like L4D and M&B where they're called mods..

{EDIT 1}
Maaaan. This sucks...

{EDIT 2}
Well, not really any replies, I'ma bookmark this and go to bed. BTW, I did all the little things, made a folder called Download, put the maps in it, copy/cut/pasted and stuff into it, tried whatever...I'm using Windows Vista, is that a problem?

Good Night!

Why do you even try to install (open) it ? All you need it is to place it anywhere into the folder called "Maps" then open your Warcraft and play it.

If you want to edit a map, you'll probably get error while trying to open it, because it is protected.

So basically, if you want to create a map, you'll need to start from the begining.

Guys, obviously I did that! I tried making a Download folder in every folder in the Maps section. I'm not that stupid, and I tried to stick it in there - The game will show up on WC3, but there's no options to change player or teams or such and if I try to start the map, it just goes back to the same place where you edit teams and stuff.

And I know that most maps will be protected, I didn't try to install them sorry, I tried to open up a few to see if I could save them under a special directory.

I believe It's just glitched for me, but why?

EDIT: Is it supposed to COME with a Download folder? Didn't for me. I use Vista, so I stuck it in C: - Program Files - Warcraft III - Maps. Doesn't work.

EDIT (Again!): Don't be mistaken, I didn't make one in every folder at the same time, just one at a time and trying it out to see if it works, aiight? Thanks!

The problem you have with starting the game is b/c the map is saved on other patch. If you are on patch 1.24 or any above 1.23 you can't play maps that are NOT saved on patch 1.24.

So, all you need is to verify that the map works on patch v1.24 (well almost every famous map is now working on that patch) and then place it in ANYWHERE in the folder "Maps" which is located in the Warcraft III directory.. You don't need to make any kind of folders like Downloads...

The "Downloads" folder is supposed to be for the maps that you DOWNLOAD when you join a game and the specific map file is mising on your computer.

The problem with oppening maps in WE, is b/c they are protected (like I said in my other post)

Ok, I think thats enought clear for you to understand it. Hope I helped you.
