I import the .mdx file of a doodad or unit towards my map then hit the save button but when I try to look for the model I just imported, there is nothing there.. what am I doing wrong? It is also random models, some models work easily and some just don't.

Make sure the textures (if the model has textures that need to be imported) is imported correctly. Usually it is specified on the model page and the readme, which textures use which paths. For the model itself the path does not really matter.
Some models might not work or have missing textures, but this should be the exception and for approved models you can be pretty sure that they work.

Models and skins approved before the recent patches might not work. BLP textures with malformed mipmaps will fail to load as opposed to loading the mipmap levels blank. This means they do work with older versions of Warcraft III, but not with the recent versions. To fix is to use a tool like ImperialBLP or BLPLab set with appropriate mipmap count to re-save the BLP files.
Also, you need to save your map after importing and restart the editor completely (quit + reopen). Imported models will display as a temp cube if you try to put them in your map right after importing them
Actually all one has to do is import the model and save before referencing (loading) it in the editor and it will appear perfectly. However if it does fail to load one has to fully restart the editor due to how it caches assets.
