How can I base a spell's damage off a Heroe's Stats?

Basically, the Title says it all.
I am making this map where all spells only have one level and all a hero's over all such a damage, health, spell damage, and so on are on the hero's stats.

I know this is possible since I have already seen a lot of maps with this function.

basically you use a simple trigger with

  • Events
    • Unit - A Unit starts the effect of an Ability
  • Conditions
    • ability being cast equal to your ability
  • Actions
    • Unit - Cause (Triggering unit) to damage (Target unit of ability being cast), dealing (Real((Strength of (Triggering unit) (including bonuses)))) damage of attack type Chaos and damage type Normal
for the damage go to arithmetic and select "convert integer to real" -> hero attribut
