About the Map
About the Map
The map is, as said, an AoS map. That means every player will control one hero and make this hero more powerful while the game is running. You will kill enemies to increase your heros level. Gain new abilities and make your current abilities stronger and better. You'll buy items for your hero to increase the power of the hero. All players are divided into two teams, The Corrupted and The Outcasts, each team will contain five players. In order for a team to win, the team will have to destroy the enemie teams main building, but it will take some battle to get to it. The main building is protected by strong guard towers and enemie units are almost always defending it.

This is much of the basic things I think everyone knows.
The Story behind Heroes of War


Heroes of War - Story

It has now been 179 years since Arthas was defeated by the great nations combined, but the world was not yet in peace, the war still raged on causing endless misery and chaos.
With the Lich King defeated, the nations once again began to fight each other. Years past and the wars only got worse, as a result the nations summoned massive gods of destruction, trying to get an edge in the war; but only more chaos was born with those summoned gods.

There were a total of eight gods summoned, fighting each other, tearing the world into bits and pieces. However, after a while the gods got tired of the endlessly raging war and the destruction it caused; so they turned against their own masters and broke free from their command.

With the world almost destroyed, the gods defeated their former masters and the remaining nations were ought to restore the badly damaged world.
Only two nations (The Corrupted, The Outcasts) survived the rage of the gods and yet again started to reestablished new cities and armies. Even with the world torn apart, the nations could not forget their past wars and the dispute continued deep inside an old. Now fighting for their very survival or until they fall into the Gods rage.

The Corrupted is an army of terrifying creatures living deep inside forgotten forests and swamps. They grew stronger and stronger while the world was trying to defeat the Lich King. When the world turned into absolute chaos after Arthas death they saw their opportunity to seize power and ran over all enemies they came across with their army of corruption. They are also the ones responsible for the summoning of the God of Immortality, that later pushed them back, forcing them to flee to the very deepths they came from.

The Outcasts is an army of Bloodelfs and demons, they are very self-centered, driven by the will of getting stronger by enhanced magical powers and massive constructions. They didn’t really care about the war but they knew they were going to be affected by it sometime and made a decision to enter the war, testing their magical powers and combat skills on enemies. They are the ones responsible for summoning the God of Vortex that like the other Gods also pushed their masters back to where they came from destroying them utterly with overwhelming power.
New heroes will rise, new kins will be discovered, deadly creatures to be faced and old kings will be on the top of determination in the epic battle to survive in the new god controlled world.

Features

Now about the features of this map. I'll make a list of all the features:

* Current Features

The map will, probably, at its release, contain atleast 54 unique heroes. Each hero will have atleast one triggered spell, ofcourse there are heroes with more triggered spells. All heroes will hopefully be as much balanced as possible.

Each hero will have four (4) abilities and one (1) Attribute Bonus ability.
Three (3) of those abilities are basic abilities with a maximum upgradeable level of five (5).
One (1) of those abilities is the Ultimate ability with a maximum upgradeable level of three (3).



At the beginning of the game, the host will currently be able to select one of five game modes:
Allpick (-AP), Allrandom (-AR), Randompick (-RP), Random Tavern (-RT), The Chosen Heroes (-CH)


When the host selects this Game Mode, all players will be able to choose any hero they want to play with.

Repick Enabled: True



When the host selects this Game Mode, all players will get one random hero each, they will not be able to select any hero

themselves.

Repick Enabled: True



When the host selects this Game Mode, all players will get a list of three heroes. The three heroes at the list are randomized. In

order to select a hero the player will have to type either -Pick 1, -Pick 2, -Pick 3 in the game-chat.

Repick Enabled: False



When the host selects this Game Mode, all taverns except one tavern will be deleted from the map. This order players to just

select heroes from one random tavern instead of all five. Otherwise this Game Mode is like the Allpick Game Mode.

Repick Enabled: False



When the host selects this Game Mode, all players will pick a hero in turn. Player one (1) begin picking a hero, then it's player

sixs (6) turn to select a hero and then player two (2), and it will continue until everyone got a hero.

The special thing about this Game Mode is that each player will have four heroes randomized for themselves at the beginning

of the game. Noone will know which hero that will be able for a player.

This is how it looks when the host shall select a Game Mode for the game:

The map will contain two duel areas, every x second, one random player from each team will be picked and will have to

kill its opponent. Both dueling heroes will start with full HP & MP and with no cooldowns.
The winner of the duel will be teleported back to its previous location and the defeated player will have to wait for a respawn.
The winner will also earn 200 extra gold, while the winners team will earn 100 gold.

(The battlefield will be paused until the duel or the duel-timer ends)



Every x second, units will be created both for The Corrupted and The Outcasts at all lanes (varies with the

game mode). The units will not be the same all the time, it varies between two wave groups.
As an extra feature: Every x second a stronger unit will be created to aid the team in battle.

Every team will have towers, defending the main base from enemie attacks. Players are able to aid those towers with three

special abilities in a special building called: Forbidden Secrets. Those three abilities are:

Outside the battlefield you can find two mini-bosses with a special loot, that you only can get from those mini-bosses.

A Water Elemental with a lot of HP and very strong frost attack. Sometimes it may succeed to stun you.
It's recommended to kill this mini-boss togheter.

A very powerful creature. Its HP is a lot more than a hero ever could achieve and its attacks are very powerful. Its abilities is

unknown...
You should kill this mini-boss togheter, everyone...



I've created a simple multiboard, that will show every player:

* Current Game-Time (Top-Left)
* Time until the next duel (Top-Right)
* Players are sorted into two categories (team based)
* Respawn timer (if the players hero is dead)
* Hero icon
* Players name & the player heros name
* Player heros current level
* Kills/Deaths
* Total Kills/Deaths of the team (Patch 1.3.0a)

You are able to upgrade your teams units. You can increase their attack damage or armor for the cost of 500 gold.

This upgrade can be bought at the Forbidden Secrets building.

(Every 8th minute the units attack damage will be increased for free)



The terrain is made by me, it may not be the best, but I like it and I think it's well made. Improvements may come.

A quest system will be created, allow players to do some on-topic quests to earn some rewards while playing.

This is a kinda unique idea for a map like this I think. We thought, why do maps like this always have to be about killing

eachother?
That's why we're going to add this game mode:


SURVIVAL GAME MODE (Damn the Gods (DtG))

The survival game mode is a survival contest between the teams. It's about that every team will have to defend its own main

building from waves of attacks. It will be five waves every round before a boss will appear with powerful abilities, doing

everything to destroy the main buildings.

This is what we've planned at the moment. We've allready written about all the bosses, stats, abilites and such. The only thing

that's left is creating them.

You can't attack allied towers when they have more than 10% hitpoints left. Units though, can you kill anytime. Allied heroes are untargetable

I almost forgot to reply on this one.

That's just it.
You could target units anytime.
Try to think that many could abuse this and many would be outraged because of this.

Remember.
"What could be abused, WILL be abused"

Yeah. We may set a %limit on when you can attack an allied unit, I must talk to Drunken_Rider then. I've looked at your hero remake, it's actually the first hero remake of one of my heroes :eek:

In my opinion, this looks like a completely new hero and if this hero will be added, I will keep the Frost Wolf and make this hero as a new one.

Good to hear you've gotten most of those errors fixed Flood. I will be retesting the map soon, but I first need to find some time to do it.

But you might want to change Frosty's icon to this.

I like this "remake" of the Frost Wolf, those ability names seems to be a little more "well" made than the current one. The current frost wolf's abilities is named like "Frost Bite", "Frost Run", "Frost Execution" and it's a bit boring. Your's have some variation. But to the point. This map already have too much shadow themed heroes in my opinion. So if you wan't I'd like you to come up with new names for the abilities of current Frost Wolf? If you can't think of any I'll simple do this remake anyway. Thanks!

His theme isn't exactly "Shadow", it's "Darkness" hence the title, "Dark Wolf"
Though they are near.

Maybe I'll just change his name and rename "Shadow Dash" so that I could remove the "Shadow" theme.

For Death Archer:
• Why didn't you made a full remake on her? Actually, I just tweaked her Ulti, so why did you only remade her 3rd skill?
Anubis Shot and Untamed Thirst are fine skills and has synergy with each other.

And there are flaws with her current skills, "Arrow of Blood" and "Death Blood"
♦ Arrow of Blood is a high-damage nuke, but it cost you, at most, 50% of your health. Enemore isn't a Tank, nor she has that much HP/survivability in her. She is a squishy AGI Hero. That's the flaw of this skill.
That why I made "Anubis Shot". It's a nuke w/ slow, that could also be an AoE nuke.

♦ Death Blood only has "Forced Synergy" with Arrow of Blood.
"Forced Synergy" is a term when one skill is COMPLETELY useless when one skill isn't learned and/or used.
This is the worst kind of synergy in a skill set, that's why we need to prevent these things. This is the flaw of this skill.
That's why I made "Untamed Thirst". It has its synergy with "Anubis Shot", due to its AoE damage, but not "Forced Synergy"

• And regarding 3rd Skill, Marksmanship. Why does it have a bonus damage? My original "Marksmanship" gives a chance to completely ignore her target's armor. "Ignore her target's armor" meaning treating the armor of her enemy as if it were 0. Meaning 0% armor reduction.
So, what's with the bonus damage?

Totem of Nightfall

Nightmare summons a magical Totem that releases negative energy, damaging every enemy unit within the vicinity. The totem starts out releasing negative energy within 275 AoE, and slowly increases its range as time pass by. Last for 4 seconds.

Level 1 - Deals 40 damage per second.
Level 2 - Deals 55 damage per second.
Level 3 - Deals 70 damage per second.
Level 4 - Deals 85 damage per second.
Level 5 - Deals 100 damage per second.

In Depth Explanation
• Damage type: Magical
• Casting Range is 500
• Area of Effect start at 275, then expands by 75 per second (275>350>425>500)
• Total/Maximum damage is 160/220/280/340/400


Why the sudden balancing/tweaking?
• Because it is just a plain ward-summoning skill that deals imbalance/overpowered damage in a huge area (500)
• I did this to balance the skill and make it something beyond plain.

• A simple Mana Burn that has no synergy with his skills nor his theme whatsoever VS a Blink-type skill that could help him in positioning and has synergy with his skills and his theme. Sound like we have a winner.

How about instead of making the target's armor treat like it's 0, why not just make her attack deal Pure Damage, since we will still receive the same outcome. Could that be the solution?

And one question.
Where could you get that "Key of Time Jump" thing that you need for Flash Step???

I didnt give her any more new abilities because i kinda like her as she is right now, tho if more ppl complains about her i probably gonna make some changes.

And i think its important that i tell you that im not working to give heroes the perfect theme right now, im going to take my time on those things later.
Right now me and flood are working on making all the heroes work properly with abilities and everything and making the heroes fun to play, giving them some nice abilities, most of them may be hard to play at the beginning.
And some abilities may just be a little wierd right now but its still a beta so we will still add/change stuff we like and those things that ain't added is probably stuff we don't like for the moment or gets into the "maybe list".

But its still nice to get some feedback, will probably change the nightfall totem with expanding AoE.

Overall, map was pretty good. Nice terrain, heroes, and items. The creep upgrade system was nice, along with the special creep that each lane had. The tower abilities were also pretty interesting, I haven't seen that in many other AoS maps. I did find it a little bit confusing at first to see in general what items went good with what hero types. Maybe you should organize it, so that intelligence items are with one person, strength items with another, and agility items with another person. It would make things easier to find. I did find a few minor spelling/grammar errors (like when it gives the duel information and a few other areas), and on the hero selection screen, the word Strength is misspelled and there's two brackets around it. This doesn't exist once you choose a hero. You have definitely improved the grammar/spelling aspect of the map, so kudos to that. o_O The loading screen was also quite blurry. Could you make it a little bit clearer? Also, are you guys planning on adding creep camps in the future?

Rating: Very nice map overall, just needs some more tweaking. 5/5 + rep. :)

We will do something about the items, make them more sorted and such, maybe in the way you said! About the spelling/grammar errors we do fix more and more with each update as I've said, but we do have to find them first :) Drunken_Rider said he has found a person that will check our grammar, so that's nice. The brackets is there for a purpose actually, it's the primary attribute of the hero, it may be a bit unclear, but I think we will color the main attribute in selection with a specific color.

What version of the map did you test? Because our latest version (2.4.0b), I did actually update the loading screen and the map preview images, they're a lot better now in my opinion!

The creep camps is just an idea, we'll see if we'll add it. I want it added, Drunken_Rider is still uncertain about this, so we'll see.

2nd, delete the feature that if you are less than 5 players that only-mid mod enables. For example, I wanna play alone and I am not content with this compulsory game mode.

Hi, ye we forgot to change the voice on arthas hehe but that will be fixed in the next patch.

I will not remove the only mid feature with less than 5, i think its a nice thing so ppl don't forget to add it ( i myself have forgot it in dota sometimes).
And there is no reason to play with all lanes open with less than 5 players anyway, since there is no way to defend 3 lanes with a team that only have 2 players.

And to top it off, it only works in the night... useless.
I suggest you just remove this highly overpriced priced item, and just give "Spirit World" a recipe, maybe at the cost of 1350.

Hi, i could do some changes with the Key item, its an very old item that we have'nt touched since we released the first beta here on hive i think.

And about the lost soul shop, you said you didnt know it existed, well why do u think its called a secret shop? :p
Anyway, i have an idea how to fix those things with new players.

I wont change model with the archer, the portrait may not be perfect but its still ok imo and i like the model and think it looks better than the one ingame.

Yes, some of the heroes may be unbalanced and all the new heroes that are released may also be unbalanced, but not always. We had 54 heroes that was pre-made when the BETA was released and now we've released them one by one or two by two, etc. Now when all heroes soon are finished we can take more time to ALL heroes and make them more balanced and fix them to be better and more fun to play. Anyway, it's very hard to test all the heroes by our own, that's why we would need some more comments about the heroes, that could help us balance them. We're six people at the moment that test each un-released patch and trying to find as much bugs and unbalance as possible, but it now always we find those things, that why we want you to help us find them. Just to make the game better and more fun! Hope this answer is enought. :)

Cloak of shadow may be a little overprised but its not THAT useless.
First: if you have that item and if its night, it could atleast save your life
Second: it could help you make an ambush on hostile heroes if used correct by a skilled player

So, it may not be the best of items but its not 100% useless.
Tho i may reduce the price

2.I dont like what I can pick all heroes.Maybe its better if you make heroes for "good" and "evil" side(we have -ap mode).

1. You're wrong. 65% normal (boring?) wc3 spells is absolutely wrong. It's just what you think. I took the time to calculate how many triggered (our own custom spells) spells we have and how many normal ("boring") wc3 spells we have. And this is the answer:

We have 54 heroes. Each hero has 4 abilities (Attribute Bonus isn't included), this is a total of 216 abilities. I calculated how many triggered spells we have and the final number was 136 abilities. This is MORE than the normal wc3 spells. So actually we have 63% triggered spells (136/216 = 0,629 = 63%), and that's a huge difference from your answer :)

37% non-triggered spells



2. Why would it be better if we make the heroes with two different "teams"? Actually they are lost souls from the Ancient War that can be summoned by anyone.
3. I can't answer that question, I'm not a Dota player and if it is, it's up to everyone themselves on what they think.

I will not make an "Evil and "Good" side because i rly don't see any meaning with it. If you choose -ap you can pick all heroes anyway, if you choose -ar you'll get a random hero anyway and the other modes is not supporting your idea much more.

I don't think this map is so much like DotA except the gameplay, because if you mean that this map is similar to DotA just because its an AoS map then every AoS map is similar to DotA imo.
Anyway, we are soon gonna start working on a mode called -DtG (Damn the Gods)
its a survival mode and this mode will make our map unique compared to other AoS maps i belive, i hope so.

No, the -ap mode isn't useless. As you can see when the game starts there's already other planned game modes. Like basic -ar and such. So -ap do have to be there as an option.

Well, at the moment we need more people that can test the map in-game try to find as much bugs as possible, also, we need more feedback on gameplay and such.

The Forsaken (Comments)
I see your Hero "The Forsaken" and have some comments regarding him, more specifically his soon-to-be skills.

• Death Coil - Is this the one in the Melee maps? We'll soon see.

• Wave of Terror - You might want to change the name because some will just use this to compare this skill to DotA's Wave of Terror (Vengeful Spirit). I could think of a new name but I don't know a thing about the skill.

• Pulse of the Forsaken - I like it. From the icon to the name. We'll just see if its effect will be as good as its name and icon.

• Frostwyrm - Uhmm. I got lost here. This is kinda out-of-place since his first 3 skills focuses on Evil & Darkness, and not even one part of that gives us the idea of him having the ability of Ice. The Frostwyrm revolves more in the theme of Ice, therefore making it out-of-place.

I think that changing him to a Gargoyle would make much more sense, since he looks like a Vampire anyway, why not just make change into this Flying, vampire bat-looking menace.

If you don't like the model, there are still Skins and Models here in Hiveworkshop.

- "Light" doesn't actually have the ability to "Hex" someone. It makes no sense. That's why I changed it's name to "Voodoo Staff" and gave it an appropriate icon.

I liked your Gargoyle idea, i will change that instead of frostwyrm.

You said that we should change the name of Wave of Terror just because its an ability named like that in DotA, so u mean that if there is an ability named for example Growl in another AoS map i should'nt use that one either? I gotta say that i rly don't care.
And of top of that you tell me NOT to have the same names while you kinda much copy an item from dota as a suggestion into my map? o_O
That Bowl of Replesnishment is almost a 100% copy of Bottle from DotA.

First, the Gargoyle thing - You're welcome

Second, the Wave of Terror. I also thought of that and point taken, but you really can't deny that there is that chance that they will use that small thing to prove that it is like DotA. Anyway, I could always change its name as soon as I know its effect.

Third, the Bowl of Replenishment, as I said, I'm still not in the mood to make it special and, if not totally, slightly different from DotA's Bottle. I just posted it there for me to not forget about it, and for others to know that I'm currently thinking of another regeneration item.

EDITED. Nevermind. I found the answer

I don't really care if you use them in your maps, I don't want them in this map, because they got not the same borders and I don't know how they become inside wc3 when converted. Also they are there for WoW not Warcaft 3.

Flood, they are converted with the means of the "Button Manager" A software used to change icon borders. Here is the link for it.

There is another way to change borders and it is using this Website. But it is only for .png or .jpg files only.

And not that I'm proving a point or anything and no offense, but most Wow icons are better and more fitting than the ones here in Hiveworkshop and some icons here form Hives is actually from Wow.

Sorry if I have to change his name to Varimathras because Mervixines is just, well... Before that, "Where did you even get the name Mervixines?"

And I added Demon to his title. Now its "The Forsaken Demon" It sound more epic than just "The Forsaken"

Death Barrage

Varimathras targets an enemy unit and afflict it with a dark energy. When Varimathras is near the affected unit, he is able to send out death coils that hits and damages affected unit every 0.4 second. The Debuff on the target last for 6 seconds

Tides of Darkness

Varimathras lets loose a wave of dreadful energy that terrorizes enemy units in a line. All affected units will have their armors and movement speed reduced. Last for 12 seconds

Level 1 - Reduce their armor by 2 and movement speed by 4%
Level 2 - Reduce their armor by 3 and movement speed by 6%
Level 3 - Reduce their armor by 4 and movement speed by 8%
Level 4 - Reduce their armor by 5 and movement speed by 10%
Level 5 - Reduce their armor by 6 and movement speed by 12%

• Casting Range is 1200
• Area of Effect is 300
• The wave gives vision as it goes forward.
• The wave could travel a maximum of 1200 units

Pulse of the Forsaken

Mervixines can hear the heartbeat every Hero he faces. The less health the hero has, the faster its heartbeat will be. When a when a nearby enemy Hero reaches below 40% hp, Varimathras is able to sense the its location and gains additional movement speed.

Level 1 - Increases movement speed by 8%. Grants vision of the target. Area of Effect is 1600
Level 2 - Increases movement speed by 16%. Grants vision of the target. Area of Effect is 2200
Level 3 - Increases movement speed by 24%. Grants vision of the target. Area of Effect is 2800

• Pulse of the Forsaken is not triggered by Illusions
• Invisible units will show up on the minimap, but won't be able to get targeted directly. If a target order (attack or spell) has been set on them before they go invisible, the order will be fulfilled. Units can also autoattack these invisible units.

The blood of a demonic Gargoyle flows within his veins. He transforms into a powerful Gargoyle with extra hit points, and new abilities that helps him in different situations.

Same to you, I don't want them in this map if it isn't extremely critical and I think Drunken_Rider is on my side. I don't want to take the time converting any WoW icons to make them fit with Warcraft 3, accept it or leave it.

I'll let Drunken_Rider check your changes about the Forsaken. Anyway, I like the name of "Death Barrage", but not the icon and this Death Barrage is currently planned to have a maximum number of released Death things, not a timer.

Everything seems fine and as said, I'll let Drunken_Rider take a look at it.

By the way, where did you get that passive icon for Flesh Rip? I searched in the World Editor for like 20 minutes without finding anything and I'm like 100% sure I've seen it anywhere...
