Is it possible to make a buff be treated as hostile (meaning red letters instead of green ones) without changing the base spell used?
That way, unit icons would be red when multiple are selected...

Well if it's red, there is a negative effect going on. What negative effect do want to go unnoticed?

You didn't get it. At this time it is not negative and goes unnoticed. I want to make it hostile (so the name of the buff is in red colored letters and not green).

You can use this https://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/tools-560/jassnewgenpack-5d-227445/ to color some text like Text - Name, Text - Tooltip Extended and many more. However some Text cant be colored directly when you select them like the buff name and tooltip, so you will need to copy color code on the text that you have edited and paste it on the buff that you want to color. Here's an example |cffff0000Stone Guardian|r, copy this code |cffff0000 and paste it after the name of your buff. It should be |cffff0000NAME OF BUFF

The coloring is not the problem here, he wants to turn a negative buff (which is displayed with red letters) into a positive one (with green letters), he can change the color of the tooltip, but when he casts a spell on him e.g. which removes all negative buffs, his negative buffs with green tooltip will also get removed..

Yeah exactly that, but the opposite. So, positive buff into negative :D

It is impossible to change the classification from Positive to Negative without changing the ability itself or changing the game.dll.

You based your spell of a spell which applies a positive buff.
You CANNOT make this a negative buff.
You have to base your spell of another spell or do what I do and just use a buff system.
