On a statistical level, you should just ask ralle. He owns the site, so he knows the numbers. As far as activity is concerned, we are still the most active WC3 community and probably one of the more active modding communities in general. Of course, assuming that ralle will do the smart thing and pull focus to SC2, we should see a massive boom in activity in the coming months.

Of course, oldfags leave, but that's just what happens. Heck, I'm pretty much inactive now. (So it's weird that I am posting this...) But, alot of people sign up.

The problem isn't that we are becoming inactive, it's just that lately, users have begun to take crap way to seriously. The mods are the only people who should take crap seriously. Instead of laughing a situation over, people would much rather just blame some random mod for it.

The other problem is that users seem to think that not caring means to break rules and get expect to get away with it. (I've been guilty of this.) That's not what that means at all. What it means is to simply let stuff go. Of course, you should still follow rules. That just means your not completely stupid. Just don't throw a hissy fit every time something changes or a new idea is instituted.

We are getting more and more users, and there's a constant stream of new resources coming in. The quality of these resources might not be as good as before though. I would say we're growing and when SC2 is released we will notice a great increase in activity here.

Most of the Hive's best members have come and gone.

I've discovered that most of the users I idolised were actually pretty horrid at what they did. Or said they could do.

Anywho, that be fellows like Red Shift and lelyanra and so on who are actually good.

As it turns out, familiar user != good user. Mostly nostalgia filter

The Hive is growing, undoubtly, but you have to consider...

How many people are signing up to be an active member of the community, how many people are signing up becuase they just want an account should they need anything and only log on 1-5 times a year, and how many people are multi-accounts?

Then you have to cross this with people that were active and posted alot and really were part of the community, but have since forth left to do other things.

It all just leads to the same answer. Yes, we are groing in size. No, we are not growing in active members that vist everyday.

It's growing in sheer numbers, but the actual productive, contributive community is shrinking. Most of the Hive's best members have come and gone.

And as they leave more arrive and eventually go and so on. It's somewhat of a cycle, and I think it's slowed down somewhat as WC3 started dying; however, I think SC2 will revive it again.

Why the hell does everyone think moving to Starcraft II will increase activity automatically?

That's not how these things work. Sure, you'll get SOME activity, but your the largest Warcraft III modding website. You could end up being the worst Starcraft II website.

I'm not trying to say you'll fail with Starcraft II. I'm just saying don't expect massive amounts of activity due to it.

I remember Mecheon and Werewulf were very rude with almost anyone. In the past THW didnt have nice moderators as in mannered. But I had a protector - Wolverabid :P

it is growing but some old members are secretly leaving and moving to either UDmod or WC3C

From what I notice everyday, the Hive Workshop is growing on a daily basis, as stated in the Number Of Members box... I usually scroll down once every single day to check out how many people joined the Hive recently...

We're obviously not going to "switch" to Starcraft 2, we're going to do both. It will increase the amount of activity, probably not massively, obviously.

My opinion is, I think the Hive is shrinking. Yes, more and more join our community but, how many of them do you think would really stay active and help out in the community after their problems have been solved?. But anyway, the Hive would continue to grow.

Not sure that was a bad thing (they weren't rude to anyone, only those that deserved it).

its just like in real life you live in a beautifull place and when you move away and return to it 10 years later you see how much its changed. My point is Hive is growing but wc3 is dying and SCII is rising new members shall come for SCII and not WC3 since evrything that new is intresting and evrything thats old isnt (for most people that is) we can only hope that Blizzard shall continue on the WC saga by making a Wc IV

Well, some old dudes like Wolverabid are gone (Had prob. in real life), And yes, new ones are coming. Don't think that some of them will be inactive. Some might become the most famous users of thw yet. We still have some senior users (like nice mr. PurplePoot over me), People come and go... If this site would exist in 20 years, I think a lot of the users would have left the site, new ones came... It's just life how it is. In 20 years We would have like a list of things this site is modding.

Well, if we look at the "Forum" part, it's shrinking, or at least in those part where I "hang around" :P
Same with the Texture/Skin section, same guys all the time.
Models, almost the same.
And maps, well, read OP! :)

We are getting more isolated, most people stick to "their part of the forums".
It's rare to see new members post stuff in the Forums, part from the Request Threads.

Thats just my interpretation of it however.
