Is there any way to configure the camera offset (x-axis) to make the unit always stay on the left of the screen when it is rotating?

I could test and try in the World Editor itself.

If there were semi-FPS maps, then it should be possible.

Certainly possible.

You'll need some jass though because coordinates leak in GUI (I think), I have not bothered to confirm it.

Well I certainly can't find the good camera system for this scenario... Some of the links in the Spell Section are not available anymore.
I found one though I didn't review it much...
