Ive been able to do this before but know it seems to be a problem. I know how to the basics, but when I go to rename the path I put .mdx, I go to put the file on an unit and it saids its a .mdl. Everytime I go to view it, its broken, and some of the modles that I've used before and worked. What am I doing wrong? last question (D'oh) How do you do a skill model. Ive tried many times to put the custom file in every spot I can (lol) and it still doesnt work.

Models and Texture Paths

Importing and applying custom models can be daunting (and frustrating) at first; once you get the basics down however, it's a snap! First, downloaded models must be imported into the map.

Vital model import tutorials include:

Visit THW's Warcraft III Tutorials forum to learn more.

The SuperSecretSearchSystem is also very helpful.

Warcraft III Viewer can be used to determine the proper texture paths for any model: Current File>Show Used Texture Names.

To change effects for shills or spells one usually edits the Object Editor ability fields:
  • Art - Caster
  • Art - Target

When you choose an imported model for a unit or doodad its suppose to be changed to mdl. Just something the WE does for some reason. So it must be another problem with the model. Probably just the path for one of the textures is wrong.

Usually aura models are attached to the origin point (feet) of the caster in the spells ability field Art - Target : look at an aura spell like Briiance Aura.

Spells that attack OTHER units usually use
  • Art - Target
  • Art - Special
  • Art - Lightning Effects
  • Art - Missle Art
Examine other spells to see how the models are attached.
