General Anime Thread

Well... I've watched a lot of stuff since I last wrote here (like it was ages ago...). But I'll just mention three of them:

Clannad
Clannad was surprisingly heart-warming..! I'm watching After Story at the moment and I fully understand why people love it. It's just a slice of life, but they do it so damn well and it's impossible not to love the characters, damn it! ^^

Voices of a Distant Star
Just like 5 Centimeters Per Second, this was melancholic as hell. I've never felt so alone just by watching something... Crying rivers and feeling alone... I must be some sort of masochist if I enjoy that more than anything else... I fucking loved it anyway... Can't explain it with words (just like 5 Centimeter Per Second...).

Candy Boy
Sadly, the keywords and themes alone for this anime (and manga) scare away most people. But even if they don't appeal to you what so ever, you should watch this none the less. It's so heartwarming, cute and adorable! Your heart will feel all warm n' fuzzy!
And it's almost completely free from all the things you normally connect those "themes" to :)

anyone here watching Highschool DxD?
Yepp and I quite enjoy it (havent seen the final episode yet) :P

It's good to have those "ecchi-gags" from time to time. It doesn't require any thinking and I'm personally laughing like hell while watching it. And I find it kind of funny that the plot couldve been used for something serious, it gives the anime a pretty unique feel. Mixing ecchi with something& Hmm& Somewhat serious.

To me the best anime is Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. The second adaptation of FMA manga is out really great and each episode contains a lot of significant events. It's not like in Naruto when a single fight is shown in 5 episodes when all the characters do is looking at each other and talking lol:)
However I'm a big fan of Naruto anyway.

Time is relative. Sometimes a ball being kicked needs three weeks before it even get near the goal. And even then it may still miss (I'm looking at you Captain Tsubasa)

Then again I guess it's better than having to wait five weeks for someone to finish throwing a punch.

Yeah, I remember, 2 episodes in the air to get the ball, sv_gravity 100 maybe

recently finished Samurai Champloo, now im starting to watch Monster, hopefully its as good as they say it is but atm I'm really enjoying it :)

EDIT: Finished it, and yes.. it is as good as they said it was, in fact its my 3rd favorite anime now (1st being DBZ, 2nd being Death Note)

So, the spring animes has begun! Here's a chart for you guys, check it out; I think it contains most of the upcoming animes.

I'll probably pick up more in due time, but Sankarea, Tasogare Otome x Amnesia, Nazo no Kanojo X, Accel World and Hyouka will have to do for now.
I wonder if there's any psychological-themed anime out there this season..? Would be nice to see something in the vein of Serial Experiments Lain, the closest last season (from what I've seen) was the TV version of Black Rock Shooter, but it was decent in comparison (I still enjoyed it however).

And Mirai Nikki is taking some pleasant twists and turns at the moment, hopefully they'll nail the ending.

And to continue the rabble, recently finished the first season of ef. I really liked it, especially the hysteria they present in episode seven and forward! Reminded me of School Days somehow, but Bakemonogatari is more present (not weird, considering that SHAFT has done both of them; I love their art direction and their way of presentation). In general, it was well worth my time.

Broadcast or chronological order?

I haven't watched it yet, don't know which way I'm gonna go at it. Probably broadcast.
I honestly have no idea, so probably broadcast. Chronological as in faithful to the manga or just choronlogically coherent? Because it seems coherent enough so far but admittedly each episode does carry an inkling of independance to it.

Really good show anyways, strongly recommended.

Chronological as in the story is told linearly (like e.g. watching Pulp Fiction in the correct order). There's a great debate over which provides the greatest overall experience in watching the anime, and whether it actually achieves something showing it in an incoherent order or if it's just a waste of everyone's time. On another hand, some say watching it in chronological order is for autists with no attention span.

An example, this is a text file I got with the download, telling me how the uploader recommends it:
Season 1:
NON-linear "Kyon order"

11, 01
02, 07, 03, 09,
08, 10, 14, 04,
13, 12, 05, 06

Watch Season One in this way, then watch Season Two in "Haruhi Order". You will watch season one two times, but it is worth it.

Season 2 (and 1):
Chronologically "Haruhi order"

01, 02, 03, 04
05, 06, 07, 01*
08, 09, 10, 02*
03*, 04*, 05*, 06*
07*, 08*, 09*, 10*
11*, 12*, 13*, 14*
11, 12, 13, 14

* = Season 2

Shit seems profound. If I'd known there was such depth to it I would have done more research before diving in. I'll probably watch it in broadcast order now that I'm already on episode 10 or something, but I should try it chronologically as a second helping.

Thanks for the head's up.

After the first season you should watch the first episode of the second season and then the movie (The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya), it's one of the best anime movies ever.
Don't watch the rest of the second season, it's garbage.

Lmao, well i just finished all of the 6 episodes from the show Fooly Cooly (FLCL) and it had to be one of the craziest anime's i have ever watched. I felt weird for watching it. But oddly enough it was actually very good, (at least to me). Just wish it was long, cause 6 episodes....... ya.. =\

@Geazergimli2, hehe, I personally love FLCL! and all its weirdness; you gotta' love it when someone mixes weird random events (I mean... Come on... Robots growing out of your brain, that's just awesome!), comedy and psychology. But I can't agree that I felt weird watching it though… It’s just Gainax in a nutshell x)

But if you want to feel weird, watch this:
Hen Zemi
I still don’t understand how I managed to watch the 13 episodes… It’s just so damn awkward.

UHHHHH NYAA
UHHHHH NYAA
UHHHHH NYAA
LET'S NYAA

YOU GUYS KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.

MEMORABLE.
OPENING.

'Kay I'm good.

but ill give this Hen Zemi show a shot

EDIT: Ya.... after watch 9 minutes of the first episode i stopped, i kept asking myself (while laughing) Wth am i watching?!?! i can't see how you watched the whole thing either.

Understandable, that anime is so… Fucking odd and awkward, to say the least... "a pure definition of awkward".
And again, I've no clue how I managed to finish it...
I just watched the first five episodes of Elfen Lied with my 25-year-old sister (she likes horror).

We're going to hell for laughing our assess off.
Am I the only one who sees Elfen Lied as a slightly psychological anime..? :P
That and drowning in grey-morals.

SLIGHTLY psychological?

SLIGHTLY?! Psychological?

Nah man, it's a shounen comedy of course.

Higurashi no naku koro ni is so fucking insane it's like running neural tissue through a meat grinder. Still delivers so far but admittedly I'm only on episode 13 or something.

It was pretty awesome.

I'll probably skim through it either way, bitches need to penetrate that infinite time loop.

Yes, slightly. It's nothing mind-bending IMO.
But the anime as a whole really makes you think, but that's thanks to the questioning of morals (humanity really), or that's how I see it anyway.

Teeh, Higurashi is really awesome in my opinion, but you've to see the second season as well (the two OVA seasons are skipable however. But If you’re going to watch them… Ehm… The third season in decent, the fourth... Well, if you like loli and ecchi, go ahead and watch it; I didn't like it anyway).
