Inside this game a plot slowly unfolds around certain gems that carry a great power. A power that has to be kept safe, in your hands.



Introduction

Gems of Unification (GoU) is Role Playing Game (RPG) which can (and should) be played in multiplayer. I've worked quite a lot on this map and hope you'll enjoy it.

This map is currently still in heavy development, but playable. Of the three acts the first two are largely done. Expect this map to be updated a lot over the coming months.

If you find any bugs or have suggestions to the map don't hesitate to contact me by posting in this thread. Together we can create a new epic map!

One hero, all classes!

Pick up your weapon of choice, learn your own spells and do the quests you like. Your choices determine your class, allowing a whole new kind of customization! So will picking up a bow for instance make your hero a ranged damage dealer since bows provide a ranged attack and a damage bonus. Together with the ability to pick up any spell you like (though there is a maximum of spells you can pick) you can create your own class! Any combination is possible!​

FAQ

What is this game about? What does RPG mean?
RPG stands for Role Playing Game, which in this context means you play a character that explores the world of Gems of Unification. You're pretty free to choose which kind of character you want to be.

In which aspects does this game differ from other RPG's, like Gaia's Retaliation?
I'll be honest, in a lot of aspects it is the same, it's just fresh, new content. In what aspects it differs are these; class customization, you don't pick a pre-made class with certain abilities but you're free to choose how you want your character to be.

The game crashes!
Make sure you have texture quality on highest, else the game can crash. Next to that, suggested resolution screen is 1920x1080. Small resolution and graphic can broke game or improperly display data. If the game still crashes after trying this try running Warcraft III in openGL by adding -opengl to your startup exe.

Help, I can't save in singleplayer! Why is this?!
In order to prevent people from cheating their character up I've disabled saving in singleplayer.

My save code doesn't work.
Make sure you're using the same playername you used while you saved your character.

Restore my code!!
I won't sorry, you'll have to level up again.

I've noticed a serious bug, where can I report this?

  • All save/load bugs are fixed, saving should now always generate a code, as well as loading should now always load your character fully

  • Mana per intelligence has been lowered from 15 to 10 per point

  • New Birthsign added, Birthsign: Panda provides +30% healing done

Loving the map so far! Playing with a friend and we're 20ish right now..

Few improvements (or suggestions) I have in mind:

- Aggro: Some kind of aggro bar would be nice, and also tanking seems to be a little hard in our experience, kinda hard to hold aggro. My buddy is playing sword and board and can't seem to hold aggro very easily with me healing him, though Protective Shield -spell has made it a lot easier now that I've got it.

- Unlearning spells/skills: It doesn't seem to grant back the Skill Points. I don't know if this is intended or not. It should either not grant them back and cost no gold (as it does right now, which seems pretty useless to me) or it should grant the Skill Points back, but should cost gold. This doesn't matter that much if you choose your spells/skills carefully, meaning you have already tried the spells and you know that they're good :)

- Healing: It's nothing major, but some sort of health bars for party members would be nice. It's not that hard to see your friend's health, but it could be easier to see it in case of large pack of angry beasts is surrounding him. Easier to target with heals wouldn't be such a bad thing either :) Haven't played any new maps in a while but IIRC TKoK had such feature.

- Spells with cast time: It seems rather weird that you lose mana and begin spell cooldown when you start to cast the spell instead of after the spell is successfully casted. Sometimes I tend to move while casting a heal, because I realize there's no point to heal yet and still I lose mana and the spell goes on cooldown :) (I don't if that's intended or not)

That's all I have in mind right now, but I'll post more suggestions as I think of them! :)

I understand that it's meant to be played in multiplayer, but after playing this game for 5 hours yesterday I was kind of disappointed that I couldn't save in singleplayer.
IIRC you can play solo in Local Area Network.. Saving is disabled in Single Player because you would be able to use cheats and still save your hero.

When is your next version going to be out I MUST KILL TWINS also those three sages just keep repeating the same quests when they talk about the sapphire and captain Thomas quest is in a loop where the king keeps telling to go back and report to him even though you have already found his body

Hello guys, firstly: I apologize for my absence and my lack of information about this map. This year I've started my master at my university which has been keeping me quite occupied.

The good news: I'm back on the project (depending on time), I've finally fixed the save/load bugs by just removing the old (hacky) system and using Nestharus adapted towards my own data structures. I'll probably release a version soon which has this system and solves all save/load related issues (clone heroes, dissapearing items, etc) for good this time.

About the rest; please report unnoticed bugs in this thread so I can clear those out after the coming update while I'm possibly working on content.

I would like to thank all people who have been playing this map and giving this positive feedback :)

Hope I can create some new stuff for you guys soon.

Yeah, it's really good, though very unbalanced and bugged a bit. But still, every hero-build is interesting to play, unless you want just to be OP (make a dd mage then)

Hi there Drizz ~ What is a DD mage??

I haven't played this map for ages.. but I thought your class depends on the skills that you actually buy?

So what exactly do I need to do to make a DD mage ? :p

I couldn't play multiplayer in LAN, the map is too big to play...

Will look into it asap.

EDIT: woops, had uploaded the uncompressed one, correct one online now, so should run in multiplayer now :)

with this u mean that d3 is alredy included on this ver or just the quest line start to do it on next vers? :)

Not yet in this version but maybe the next.

Hey guys please help me.. I'm trying to play solo using mage spells, but I get completely smashed by the trolls below the elf base...
I'm just not strong enough to defeat the giant wolf, or the ring leader.. I cannot get the summon spell yet, cant get skill points... can someone help me??
What should I do as a mage, how can i get stronger?
Birthsign i chose is owl (25% increase spell damage)
I keep levelling my abilities all in intelligence, to try and get maximum spell power. My current spell power is 21. I have a troll priest staff, servant mantle, and ring of the wolf (improved).

And I have 85 hp, no armor, 165 mana. But I just cant defeat that wolf or ring leader to get my next spell, which would probably be healing!

haha oks, well i used to had a maxed mage in that ver, and trust me, its the most op class there :) once u reach 40+ and get ice bolt+impact u can deal extremely hard single target dmg and still keep really good aoe with other skills while ur shield just make u untouchable

Did you play mage and go solo? Or did you play with other people?

I want to know how on earth to beat the giant wolf and ring leader as solo mage...

(There are quests later on which give skill points which are better solo-able I think)

thanks :D so bad i lost like 90 minutes of gameplay /: get rejuvenation ! thats the skill that lets u play solo mage until u get shield!!! and yeah, i leveled him solo until 19

more bugs S:

ok now, when i load in this updated map i always get a lvl 50 hero with ton of items! even purples and blues just by random just load a hero with epic bow and staff both improved... i think due to this u should fix up save system and make a code wipe /:

So at level 19 as mage did you get owned too badly, or did you just stop playing?

And did you have armor items like the map maker suggested?
What shield are you talking about? Which shield is that and where can I get it?

Okay, map is updated, improved items are now properly saved, my apologies for the bug today. Hopefully you guys can now all safely play :)

I advise everybody to redownload the map and use this version.



I can see your pain, but the game is designed to be played by 2+ players really. You can of course (difficult though) play singleplayer. I would advise to go for +armor items and use healing spells. Good luck :)

nop, i could continue alone, but started to play with some friends :) its an skill , u can buy it at tauren/centaur camp for 1 points and 2000 gold

Hey Pacha, what weapons did u have as mage?
Did you use a staff, or a weapon?

I find its annoying with a staff since you cannot physically attack anyone..lol

Also, which birth sign did u choose?

Btw, about the Healing birth sign, does that improve hp regen without sleeping, or does it improve any healing spells u have?

You're probably one of the few, so I think no code wipe is needed.

Btw, about the Healing birth sign, does that improve hp regen without sleeping, or does it improve any healing spells u have?

It works on all healing except for Rest/sleeping.

By the way, before i waste my skill points, can you recommend the best mage skills to buy?
I already have healing, and summon bird, and I can now choose another...

Ok after checking out all the spells around me (for now), the two spells im considering are the one that gives 2 mana each hit,
and the arcane spell that deals 2 x spell power, cool down i think 6 seconds. which is better?
Or maybe the nature's touch spell? Heals instantly?

It is easy to get more skill points by remaking the map and repeating the first few quests who by now should be easy so you dont need to worry much about wasting skill points. In fact getting the gold needed to buy some of the later spells can be more of a problem than the skill points.

The spells i'd recommend for a mage are rejuvenation, the shield spell from 3rd city and the water jet spell. The rest i find to be more of a matter of personal preference.

Also keep in mind that if you equip a staff you cant atk so you wont benefit from the 2 mana per hit spell. Still you probably don't want to use a staff till you get some dps spells too unless you plan to act as a healer in a party.

Do you guys know where I can get a decent weapon for taking on palemane hills with mage? I keep getting owned :(
I dont have any good weapon..
ive mail helmet, kite shield, mail gauntlets improved, and the priest's cape.
Max my skills in intelligence.

Sadly i can't recall where you can get a good weapon. But there is a good str armor you can get. It was either a drop from the bear or the furbolg boss, can't remember which one. The +armor on that armor should really help you solo stuff.

P.s:Don't forget to improve it if you get it.

oks, ty, ill just start again my hero so :) dont want a 50 S: hey and 1 question, the purple chest,bow and off hand, and also de holy circlet and the lvl 40+ str armor those where are suposed to be droped?? the blues i know that gamble can give em but the epics?? the only epics i´ve seen being droped are staff,sword and 2 handed sword

I can't seem to get tough enough...

get the staff from murlocs :) all u need is rejuvenation and fireball with arcane burst being a nice extra and use pet( iused fox) to tank for u, if u can host lan we can play rigth now :)

Fireball? Is that the spell from the starting town?
I thought that damage per second green spell would be better?
And which staff are u talking about?? what is it called?

get both, u do curse at start and then keep casting fireball, no need to physical atack, its called staff of the swamp i think its green, also i like to set curse on a target and make pet atack that one, and fireball the other till dead so u kill 2 by getting the dmg of 1
