You forgot the quotation marks "..." at the beginning and the end of the preload function. Also, it will be better if you put all these preloads inside one .pld file and call them using Game - Preload all files listed in <filename path> Example:

1) The GUI function automatically put quotation marks. I added them anyway. They still don't have any effect with quotation marks around the file names. It still lags.

2) What is a .pld file? How do I create one? Once I create the .pld file, do I import it to map via Asset Manager? Or do I add the text to the map script?

One thing to note: the lag related to loading a unit isn't necessarily just from the asset file. The unit, as well as its abilities, sometimes need to be preloaded in the map themselves.

It might be worth taking a look at this resource and the thread for some information:

Essentially, on map initialization (or after 0.00 seconds), you can spawn a unit-type on your map and then remove it. For abilities, you can add the ability to a dummy and then remove it immediately.

For things like this, I always recommend profiling with one isolated case first. First identify a unit (or model) that causes a lag spike when it is first loaded. Then try preloading that using the method above and see if it helps (it helped pretty dramatically for me a long time ago, anyway). :thumbs_up:
