Furbolgs vs Gnolls v3.2 [SM]

Reactions: Septimus
This map is a fast-paced strategy map where you need to take control points to gain more income. The objective is to kill the enemy team's tresure box.

The main feature of the game is 2 almost completely different races - Furbolgs and Gnolls.
Furbolgs depend on strategy and the proper use of gold.
Gnolls depent more on strategy and micro.

Furbolgs are generaly easier to play, but Gnolls are a bit stronger. BUT if you learn how to REALY play the furbolgs, you can unlock their true potential and they will become the strongest team (same kind of goes for the Gnolls ^^).

Some of the game features:
-Gnoll Catapulst - catapults that fire Gnoll Workers. Just load them on and shoot ^^
-Portal of the Dead - you will find this building interesting as it "revives" your dead units.
-Gnoll Behemoth - a super sized-super strong unit, but costs a lot. Has a chance to instantly destroy a building =)
-Static Walls - they work in a very interesting way.
-Heavy Furbolgs - they are heavy, but they need some upgrades.
-Static Gun - a gun that creates a force field that pushes/attarcts nearby units.
-2 heroes on each side with cool, mostly triggered abilities for strategical use!
-Stacking items.
-A nice bonus end game song ^^

The races are interesting and I can say that the map will become much more interesting when you learn it (and it doesn't require much to learn).

There are some begginer tips at the start, but mostly you must check everything out yourself.

The game is designed for strategical use and has MANY MANY ways of winning the game, from brute force to backdoor.

Credits for the terrain go completely to Covalent. Credits for the end game song go to ParagonX9.

*Map is protected*

If the map seems hard at the first time, try playing it again. It is quite easy to learn the races.

Have fun playing! ^^

Septimus: Constantly delete and re-upload map is a rules violation. use the update button in the future.

Edit : I set it to pending and let you off this time. In the future, please use the update button at this thread to update your map.

Update : I make a quick check and it seems to be ok for a approval, I would give it a better review when I have time. As for now, approve.

A word from the map creator:
The new breath of the map started from v2.7, because it took a realy long time from 2.6 (forgot about the map). It had nothing special and one time I wanted to play it. I played it and though that it needs something new. And there it went - a lot of updates till v3.1 that made it great.

Some people just don't want anything new and after realising you need to "train units" in this map, just leave. Others ask for a rmk.

Now about the map - first, you need to play it a couple of times to learn what units and upgrades are there in the map for a race or both races. Once you learn everything (and there's not much to learn) you will REALISE all the possibilities and strategies this map has to offer.

After some ~5 games of the new 2.7 version there was a game where there were only 7 people (including me), so it was a 4v3. I told everyone that it's ok and I'm a pro and we can go 4v3, because I thought like: "I know this map's every possibility! I'll win for sure!". And I actualy LOST that game. Usually I'm not a strategical player. I knew the possibilities, but used pretty simple strategies like just training some units, doing upgrades and that's all...

Now after ~20 games I started to USE those possibilities. Now I believe I CAN solo 2 players and win.

The game is still fun to play, just roam arround, build defenses to protect points, but I'll tell you one of the advanced strategies I learned ^^

It can only be done for Furbolgs and I call it: The ULTIMATE backdoor

In the top-left corner of the map you can go into the forest and hide there. I use it to build a LOT of siege towers there, combined with a Hunter's Hall for more damage, while noone even suspects a thing. Then using 4-6 Sentry Totems to reveal their treasure box I win in 2-3 minutes. "They didn't know what hit them".

Counter: 1. Protect that spot. Send 1 skeleton there so you'll know when someone comes there. 2. Gnoll Catapults (if you didn't follow 1 and he already build siege towers).

To tom jones:

Some people just don't want anything new and after realising you need to "train units" in this map, just leave.

For all the others:
v3.1b released. A couple of bugs fixed, cost on some furbolgs units reduced !!!AND!!! the protectors for both sides are much weaker now (so you'll be able to win faster).

Have fun ^^

Seems original enough, I'll take a look at it at some point over the weekend. The only thing I'd like to know, is it done in GUI or JASS?

I call it GUJass ^^

GUI with the use of local variables and Jass functions (I developed it myself).
To use local variables and Jass functions (that I make myself) I use custom scripts. Mostly this is GUI and all the memory leaks are removed + I use loops (with custom script).

Edit:
Map updated to v3.1c with very small balance changes.

Hmmm, I would suggest all JASS, but as long as you kill the leaks and don't use any lag-intensive functions, it should be fine.

I'm looking forward to seeing this :)

I hate Jass, because you need to remember too many functions + why the hell make such things as map init and cinematics in jass? -_- Jass isn't god... If triggered right GUI becomes the same.

Its pretty good. I like the gnoll catapult idea. However, i think it has some balance issues, with gnolls being much stronger then furblogs. The gnoll behemoth is waaay overpowered.

Well, then give ideas to balance stuff :D

And to beat gnoll behemoth, use Furbolg High Mage's ability - Energy Surge.

It deals damage equal to 30% of missing hp +200. So to a behemoth with 3k hp left out of 6k, it will deal 1160 dmg (and it will kill a 1500/6000 hp behemoth).

You can use multiple surges at a time (requires team work) to kill a 50% hp behemoth.
And behemots cost 2k gold :)

I found for myself, that they die pretty fast :(

Anyway, tell me what you think about the game :D ?
How would you balance behemots or other things?
Do you have any ideas about units/items?

And y - catapult is fun ^^ A bit imba against buildings though -_-

There are some break threws in this game, like the gnolls, rush with overseers, guaranted the best unit on the map with research, 50% bash FTW :)

Some gnoll workers, up with the building which decreases attack speed and you very often win.

Still that tactic takes some time to get resources but it works :)

Also one thing about the behemoths, can they one shot the treasure box? just wondering :)

Also I think it's perfectly balanced except that the furbolgs have so freakin many researchs to get better, especially in the start. So the gnolls are overpowered in the start with their uber towers with 1500 range and hunter hero with mana burn ww.

Do you have any ideas about units/items?

Most of the items are just scrolls of different kinds, well makes the game funny but maybe a neutral shop in middle wouldnt hurt?

50% bash requires a lot of researches. lvl 3 weapons and then the gore (4 upgrades).

Building that decreases attack speed isn't built very often (even I rarely build it) that's the reason it's strong (it may be a bit imba, y).

About Behemots, I don't rememver if it's said in the tooltip (I believe it is), but it DOESN'T work on treasure boxes and outposts (works on everything else :D).

As for the towers they are realy good, but Furbolgs can counter with the siege towers (2000 range). Don't remember how much did the siege upgrade cost (150-300?). Also, Furbolgs don't have to "build" towers unlike the gnolls do which makes it a bit more even.

I was thinking about 3 neutral shops on each side (left/center/right) where you could buy some permanent items, units, special things and ENEMY wolfs (so that you can kill them for xp :D).

To balance heroes, I think I can buff Furbolg's items a bit (previosly they were a bit imba and people complained about it, so they got nerfed).

Right now imba things that I think exist in the game:
-Gnoll catapults are way too strong when they damage buildings (the 75 damage is SIEGE damage, I think it's 2x damage to buildings)
-Gnoll heroes are a bit better and if you feed them they become IMBA
-Vampiric Potion is a bit imba :D Lifesteal needs to be reduced to 25%
-Gnolls may be imba early game (I think that can be fixed by reducing their starting gold like it was before).

Some tips to counter ghouls that you most likely don't use:
Do NOT feed their heroes. Unlike furbolgs they become realy imba. Buy the teleportation devices (they cost about 50-60 gold and have 5 charges). Then when you see some of your units in the group is low on hp do this:
-Use teleportation device on it.
-Shift+left click on it's portrait to deselect it from the group.
-Ctrl+1 (or 2) to set the new group.

A shaman at the base is great to heal them.

THANKS for you reply :)

Just for the note: Right now I'm wokring on the nsl map (Naruto Shippuuden Legacy), so it may take me time to release a new version of Furbolgs vs Gnolls.
