Hello, and, again, welcome to the Scars of Conflict hosted forum! In this thread, we'll post a list of all common questions that you may have and attempt to provide an answer to them. If you have a question that is not listed here, please refer to the General Questions thread, and post your question. Alternatively, create a new thread.
1.
Q: What map genre is Scars of Conflict?
A: Scars of Conflict is an altered melee. Initially, there were plans for a campaign, but those were dropped due to the large amount of effort and time required for the completion of such a huge project.
2.
Q: Is there a planned release date?
A: Currently, the Scars of Conflict team is working on a demo that will feature the Orcish Horde and a single 2 versus 2 map. There is no estimated release date for this demo, but the general aimed time is 'sometimes during or after the summer'. Once the demo has been completed, however, we'll start working on the Alliance(which is also mostly completed, especially art-wise).
3.
Q: Are the models, textures etc available to public?
A: Yes. We released a resource pack(that is now outdated) with all of our previous models. You can find it here. We are currently working on releasing an updated resource pack here, in our hosted project forum. We'll be updating this new pack every time we change or make something new.
4.
Q: Will the Dwarven Demolition Team\Troll Berserker\Elven Ranger\another random unit from Warcraft II be featured in Scars of Conflict? If so, will you make a model for it?
A: At the moment, if a Horde unit from Warcraft II does not appear in the Techtree or Gallery sections of our hosted project area, it is almost safe to assume that it won't cut it into the game. However, we are still working on the techtrees, and constant changes are being made, so I can not answer your question fully. As for the Alliance units... We are not currently working on the Alliance, and as such we ourselves have no idea if any specific Warcraft 2 units will make a 'comeback' in Scars of Conflict.
But it is fairly safe to assume that every single unit in Scars of Conflict will receive it's own model and texture, or alternatively, simply a texture.
5.
Q: What is the current progress of Scars of Conflict?
A: Currently, we're finalizing and finishing up the Horde's techtree and artwork as well as working on a completely new terrain, having scratched the old one due to technical difficulties. We have finished most of both the Horde's and Alliance's art, most of the Horde's techtree design, most of the Horde's units in the object editor, a few spellcasters and their spells and a single control point(which is possibly scratched due to development of a new one, for the 2v2 map). We are yet to even start balancing the game out, and are not done with all the units yet.
6.
Q: Why doesn't this model look exactly like it did in Warcraft II?
A: We are not recreating Warcraft II models exactly as they are. We have taken some artistic liberties, and redesigned several parts(or sometimes entire units) to look different from their Warcraft II sprite counterparts. This is, for example, why the Catapult has no blood on the spikes, why the Mage is female, etc.
7.
Q: Will Oil or another third resource be implemented?
A: No. We have no plans for a third resource at the moment.
8.
Q: What are control points? What control points will be featured in the demo?
A: Control points are neutral buildings that can be controlled by a player if he stands near one or takes over one by force. The control point featured in the demo is the Forest Sentinel, a powerful tower-like building that protects the middle of the map(with two gold mines near him, on a big island).
9.
Q: Will there be heroes in Scars of Conflict?
A: There were many plans for Heroes or hero-like units in the past. One example of this is the Warlords system, which was planned to be some sort of a hero-replacement system in which you would hire a Warlord from your Town Hall or a 'tavern', with the Warlord himself being an upgraded version of an existing unit, such as a Veteran Grunt, that also grunts a generic aura such as '+5% melee damage'.
However, all of those were cancelled for the moment. There are currently no plans for heroes or hero-replacements in Scars of Conflict.
10.
Q: Where can I find information about the actual game?
A: In our Hosted Project site, here on the Hive. You can access it here. Simply navigate through it using the top bar.
If you have any questions or feedback about anything said in this post, feel free to reply to it.
