Free anti-spyware ?

Hey people , does any of you know any FREE anti spyware/adware program ? My net is lagging like hell

Well, there are plenty of them...

For not so long ago I used Ad-aware antispyware.

But then, when avg free was upgraded to v.8 antispyware was included there too.

by the way, is AVG free better than AntiVir free? I use the latter because I heard it's one of the best.

Lavasoft adaware and spybot search and destroy are the best two. AVG is also good.

Also, if you have Firefox, use this extension:

It will warn you about risky websites.

I don't really like the AVG 'free' edition and I could use the normal thing until 8.0 came out... so I switched to Avast. I dunno whether I like it yet or not, it's constantly scanning, which is annoying and resource hogging, BUT, it catches EVERYTHING. So, I think it could be a sacrifice worth making.

Well i Use AVG free it works great and it wont fuck up your pc when you try to run high ram tasks it just sleeps intead of running a sweep

Antyvirus+antyspyware program is always worst then seperated programs. researches prooved that.

You tested it personally? I did too, and I can't be more happy without it...
It does include both antivirus and both antispyware, and does not remove any "malwares" which could have been installed by xp or vista, which there acutally are some...

It did took 5 threats today on mine, and a major amount of spywares. I restarted the computer, everything works fine.
It can also be configured to only scan potentiall affected filetypes, but as well the whole system.

It works great for me, dont tell me it sucks

About my test.


I downloaded AVG (antivirus only) because my license for Bitdefender 9 expired. AVG worked very good. Didn't use a lot of memory and I couldn't complain about it.


Then, I bought license for BitDefender Total security 2008. After the first scan, it found 3 new viruses, which AVG never discovered...


So, AVG works good, but I doubt about it's capabilities.

It also cleans out all of your temp folders, recycle bin, etc, where many cookies and malware can be found.

Never use "Norton" or "Mcafee" you might as well not have a virus protection if u use one of them.

Norton works just fine, actually, its only problem is that its a major resource hog, thus on Vista its basically useless because it grinds your system to a halt, exactly what it's supposed to be preventing from happening.

Yeah, I think norton works great as well. However for "low-performance" computers it isn't the best option. It is draining massive amount of memory compared to Avg.

Don't use norton/symantec's home products. The menus don't allow you to turn off some of the really slow and annoying features.

On the other hand, Symantec corporate edition is the way to go. You get access to literally all the configuration options and the interface is much lighter and faster.

That said, I use AVG 8 on my laptop and don't have any big complaints yet.

I've heard about Corporate edition. My friend's Dad is a technician and he uses it on all of their computers. I guess I know why It looks majorly old school, but I'll look into it.
