Final Fantasy VII Template v0.02b

This a Technical Demonstration/Template that can be used by anyone to create a Final Fantasy Map.

Summary of the map gameplay


-The map is to be turn based with an Active Time Bar (ATB) and contains many of the original magic/commands/summons etc obtained by equipping Materia to your Weapon/Clothing Materia slots.
-Play 1-player or team up with up to 4 other players.



-Still in very early stages! (very limited story line)

-An RPG In the Final Fantasy VII universe with some of the characters from the original PS1/PC game and set in a time soon after the completion of the original game.
-Bad guys (possibly Shinra) are forging materia together to make powerful 'dark' (or black) materia. The result could be very dangerous.
-Originally the people trying to stop the materia forging (rebels) come accross as the bad guys, but you soon join them and become rebels (or terrorists) simular to the group AVALANCHE.

Most materia is available with the expected functions, AP advancement and linking combinations. Materia functions much like a regular item but if you transfer the purchased Materia to one of your Materia Slot's inventory you are able to cast spells etc. You can own a total of 5 of each type of Materia.

-Equiping Materia
First of all make sure your hero has a weapon or clothing equipt that says that it unlucks materia slots eg.(Allows 4 Materia Slots). Buy materia from the materia shop. Then access the Materia Menu, then find the purchased Materia you wish to equip and follow the hot-key directions on screen.

-Linking Materia
Materia slots link 2 Materia together. Sometimes when you link 2 Materia together they can unlock additional Spells etc.

-Catching
Currently there are two chocobos (on the world map) which you can catch using the Gyashkl Green item which you can purchase from Chocobo Bill

-Breeding
Your Chocobo will need to be level 5 before it can cast Breed. The target chocobo does not need to be level 5. The casting chocobo determines the sex and has a factor in initial stats of the offspring.
Common + Common = Green
Green + Common = Blue
Blue + Green = Black
Black + Blue = Gold

-Racing
You can race your chocobos to gain items, gil and experience for your chocobo.
Teioh's black chocobo is the hardest to beat.
You can race in C, B, A, and S Class.

I just had a quick play on this :D Although, the timer kinda paused indefinately on the first battle, and stopped me from going any further :S

But from what I saw, when this game is finished, its gonna kick some ass :) It has a really nice battle system, and the FF7 sounds / music give that FF7 feel we all know and love :)

Only down side is the terrain which is a bit plain. But apart from that, this map rocks my socks :D

Thanks for letting me know. I added it to the bugs section in my original post. I have reduced the frequency of this bug, but it can still happen; so still working on it.

Yes, I am not much of a terrainer and also I am just trying to keep the map size down a bit and get the concepts out first. This is also true for the spells; they are very plain at the moment.

I have seen Cait Sith and Cid models on Warcraft Unlimited, but the quality was not great. If you can, please direct me to the Cait Sith model you have seen.

I've downloaded this on Epicwar a couple of months ago im not sure if this is the same version as that site but there isen't a boss fight :(, I would do a remake of FF7 which will cost me about a good 1000+ hours of work and writing so skip that lol, maybe just a simple scene like assault on Mako Reactor 7, or Invade the Underwater Mako Reactor, or maybe even fight the WEAPONS lol.

Help wanted eh? sure I'll help.

Heya i found a big bug. When you beat the black chocobo in a class C Race it never goes out of the chocobo race. Just to let you know.

If you were fast enough to beat the black chocobo in a class C race that means the rest of the common chocobos were very far behind you. At the moment the race will not end until all chocobos have crossed the finish line. If all chocobos had finished the race and you were still stuck there then there must be an error and I will need to look into it. I will consider adding an option to leave the race once you finish instead of waiting for the other chocobos.

I would also increase the speed in between the better chocobos since i beat the Black Chocobo with a Common.

You beat the black chocobo in a class C race. The black chocobo has improved stats in the higher class races. The racing classes are Class C, Class B, Class A, and Class S. Class C is the slowest and Class S is the fastest.
As you bread your chocobos you get different colored chocobos with improved stats. The different chocobo types are Common, Green, Blue, Black, and Gold. Common chocobos are the slowest and Gold chocobos are the fastest.
Having said this a level 99 Common chocobo is faster than a level 1 Gold chocobo.

well i have played this and i have to inform you about a bug i saw in the game.
its when you are fighting if you attack the same enemy that its attacking you the entire game crashes,you should revise that or else guys will begin to complain.
but taking away that really cool(and if you dont know how to use hotkeys)big
battle system.you made a good map keep the good work:thumbs_up:

Glad you liked the map too, and thanks heaps for letting me know about a bug, its only happend to me on my laptop (cause its slower im guessing), then I thought I fixed it, but maybe not. Did it happen to you on the latest version, the one I uploaded less than 24 hours ago?

I think the crash may have been caused because I was using a unitgroup array up to a size of 12, but was only setting the original array size to 1 in the variable editor. I have changed this as well as a few other changes and uploaded a new version, if anyone still finds the game is crashing or any other problems let me know.

This is a very good project, this is what I found out:
  • Smooth menu if you get used to it, but you should explain it.
    (example: I thought the "Battle"-menu would be used for battles, but the "abilities (active)"-menu is used for that)
  • Materia-system is very nice (it looks like the socket-system I created in one of my unfinished maps)
  • Wide variety of materia, but not that much weapons
  • The chocobo-race is great, but gets boring after a while and you always lose with the captured chocobo's (you'll never win an S-rank race with those chocobo's and levelling to 5 for breeding is a real pain, though it might get better with save/load).
  • Terrain looks good, nothing extraordinary though
  • Very good shop-system

In general:
really great map, the idea is clearly there, you just need to finish it (which will be a lot of work).

I agree with everything you have said about the menus and have made the changes and uploaded:
Abilities (Passive) Menu changed to Passive Abilities Menu
Abilities (Active) Menu changed to Battle Abilities Menu
Battle Menu changed to Battle Option Menu

Yes lots of materia :) I'd love to see your system too.
I havent made many Weapons yet because it is just a demo and I'm finding it hard coming up with all the creative ideas required to make a large variety of weapons.
The chocobo-race is great, but gets boring after a while and you always lose with the captured chocobo's (you'll never win an S-rank race with those chocobo's and levelling to 5 for breeding is a real pain, though it might get better with save/load).
The key to winning a chocobo race is to use short bursts of the trot ability (making sure to keep your stamina near max for the majority of the race).
having said that winning an S Class race is really hard. You would need a Common chocobo that is at a rediculously high level, or a gold chocobo of course.
I totally agree with you I wouldn't want to attempting getting every type of chocobo to level 5 in a single session to breed up to a gold chocobo. For testing purposes I just use the lvlup cheat.
Terrain looks good, nothing extraordinary though
Very good shop-system
Thats the closest I've had to a complement about the terrain. I've left the terrain plain so people can easily completely change it and make a map the way they want it using the systems I have created.
Glad you like the shops. Ive tried to make the shop menus and all the other menus consistant throughout the map.

Creativity is the only thing that seperates great map makers, who knows how to use GUI perfectly from amazing map makers, who create something competely new, add a twist to it and add a large variety of items/spells/units to the map.

I'm glad to see the map is making some progress, FFVII is the best game I've ever played and this map is a really good simulation of it.

I like what you're doing. I think FFVII is a great game. One of the best. I liked the story-line, but also the soundtrack. A website makes redone soundtracks for games (Not remixes like in hip-hop (which are obnoxious)). Go to ff7.ocremix.org and some of the music doesn't quite fit the moment in the games, but i like the opening bombing mission theme they did, and it would work too. I'm working on something similar, but I want it to be the mega game of all ff7 remakes, with original storyline, but can't find good models. If anyone can point me to a skilled modeler or some existing models (I've got sephiroth) that are useful that would be great. I need Midgar with details so i can do the intro!!!

Lol of course he's gonna do part of it because fitting 40+ hours of gameplay into a warcraft 3 map or campaign is really long and impossible.

The final assault on North Crater definitely, and the date at the Golden Saucer =D. The Temple of Ancients and the Forgotten city are both pretty epic. The escape from midgar also. Any of those are good sections to do. The assault on Midgar would be nice. Also the flashback in Niblehem (The original or the actual would still be good). Those are my fav parts.

Actually Vincent why don't you wait for Starcraft 2 since they have more futuristic stuff and tiles so it won't be as hard if you made it on that instead of Warcraft 3

Good point Tau and the Starcraft II editor should hopefully be more powerful.
For now I am going to focus on making more fancy multiboard menus and T4COBELL if you like I will help you with your project.

In the Videos you didn't used an icon for barret.
I made plenty of Icons for FFVII, Before Crisis, Crisis Core, Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus. Sadly i will never be able to get them approved, but if you want to take a look, i would upload them to e.g. rapidshare and give the link to you?

I would still love to see your icons, upload them on Warcraft 3 Unlimited because you don't have to worry about approval on that website, almost all resources are accepted.

Yes but think about this for a second, the map is complete because this is a template map, the terrain was meant to be borring so it won't be much trouble for the users to terrain it.

So in other words it was a badly reviewed.

mare: All i can ask is 1 question: why is sephiroth as a playable character?
I know he was, he is the main villain of FFVII afterall, but why is he playable?
Yeah I agree with you that in Final Fantasy VII on PS1/PC Sephiroth was predominately a villain. He was only part of the party in a flashback sequence.
I included him as a playable character in this map because the excellent model exists and I am sure a lot of people will enjoy the opertunity to play as him, but if I was making a full fledged map he would most likely be removed as a playable character and instead used as a boss.
