Okay, so here's my problem: I have been working on a map for sometime now, and I decided to take about a weeks brake from it to catch up on homework and other things.
During that week, my friend gave me some sweet music, but the problem is, I think he gave me a virus of some kind and something terrible has happened. My map will not open.
I tried to start it up and it would load the custom unit pallette butnot the terrain and it just freezes up. So I un-installed WC3 and re-installed it with the patch, but to no avail.
Something even worse: The backup I had made of it also doesn't work. What makes this especially weird, is that I can open up any other map, even my own custom ones, just not this particular one.
Another thing weird: I transfered the map to my sisters computer (yes, I know I might have given her the virus too) and the map is able to open up on her computer!! It seems it is only not open on my computer, and with only that map!

I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to maybe clean the file out or something, maybe even get rid of the virus without wiping my PC out, because my virus protection doesn't get rid of it :(

Ok if you have windows try windows restore. Second there are dozens of different free virus scanners. (just make sure your not downloading a virus)
Also its probably not a virus. It does sound like a problem though. Mabey in your settings. Try resetting everything to default. Also some computers have some weird problems. Post the map and I'll see if I notice anything weird with it.

You could try to gut the map's .mpq file:
Maps damaged by corrupted models may be repaired using this procedure:

  1. Obtain and install MPQ editing software.
  2. Open the MPQ editor and select: Open File.
  3. Set the file type selector to All File Types.
  4. Browse to the folder that contains the damaged map and open it. Remember to open the correct .w3m or .w3x map, NOT a .mpq file.
  5. View the map's list file which displays all imported resources.
  6. Note: Occasionally, especially during protection / optimization, files are renamed so they are not recognizable. In this case, you should make quite a few backups, and perform trial & error tests until you get the right one.
  7. Delete each and every .mdx file (and any associated .blp texture files) which are suspected of being corrupt.
  8. Exit the MPQ editing software; no need to save the map: once the unstable files have been deleted, the map's MPQ archive will be restored.
  9. Test the map in Blizzard's World Editor and in Warcraft III.

Thanks for the input and help guys!

I don't have time to do it right now, but I will try and work some of these things out right when I can.

I have already tried windows restore and to no avail. Also, the .mpq files should not be a problem seeing as I can open it up with another computer, just not mine, but I am going to try that one. Finally, I forgot to say this: Even though the file might be corrupt and doesn't seem to open up, I can still actually play it in WC3!! Thats the most bizzare part. Anyway, I will try these things and thanks again.

Post the map and I'll see if I notice anything weird with it.
Sorry, I would but its a map that I have been working on for a long time and I don't want to risk anyone tampering with it and putting their name on it and pass it off as theirs :(
