I've unfortunately started a full-time job and (fortunately!) have gained a girlfriend which has eaten away all my free time ;) nomnomnom

That said! We've still got all the projects assets standing by and I'm sure we'll be making another epic push once we hear some more information on the marketplace :) FoG is by no means gone for good ;)

Well its up against prety hard competition, seeing how Blizzard DotA is being promoted to a entirly separate way to play SC2 with multiple maps and huge quantities of professionally made new assets. Do not feel bad if you never do finish the project as there is always that horrible chance that it might have ended up never getting the playing it diserved for all the effort you stuck in to make it.

At one point I recall reading an article saying Blizzard may actually throw in the towel when it comes to a market place, it's probably not true, but if they ever did resign the idea would you still have plans to finish this?

The market place is just a bonus. We did not start this project to earn money, we did it because we had the time to do it, and because we wanted to.
Sadly, many people do not have the time to do it any more, and some just do not want to do it as much any more.
I am in a struggle between both. I do not have as much time, and I do not really enjoy doing it as much as I used too. I just do not find it entertaining any more.
This mainly happened because of all the stupid changes they keep making to the layoutfiles. I had to recreate the FoG UI a several times, and it takes a looong time to make a UI like the one I created without having proper tools for it.
Maybe the UI editor shown at blizzcon will change that.
But the UI editor will also mean that our "special & unique" UI won't be as "special & unique" any more...

It appears to lack elbows. Or are you going for this sort of art style?

I hope the sword and shield are placeholders as I do not see a guy clad in metal armor using a wooden shield (maybe I am used to the WC3 footman too much).

Perhapse make the eye slits more realistic with an actual box behind them. No idea how much this will be noticable ingaame but from the shots you took it would give more depths to the face.

When I saw this comment in the thread: "SC2 is a much more competitive environment, and as such, any map needs to have an edge over its competitors. FoG's "edge" will be is array of custom models and textures that will make it different from the rest of sc2. By distributing the models, we essentially lose this edge and FoG loses the one key feature that makes it stand out from the rest."

I thought to myself; I am not downloading or playing this map nor supporting the development of this project.

ALL of my maps are completely unprotected, the scripts are commented and I try to clarify things so people understand them, and I encourage people to use my systems.

I consider it a great honour when some n00b loves my map so much they decide to make a screwed up haxed version only they and a hand full of their friends play from time-to-time because they wanted their own version of my map. It means they really like it.

You're not selling your map. It's not for profit; if it was I don't even have money to pay for it and SCII costed enough already. Don't hoard everything to yourselves. If your map becomes very popular people will recognize where all the models and stuff come from and when they see them in other maps they will say "these models are from FoG".

Btw you need to update the thread's original post; it looks like you haven't changed anything in there since the thread was created.

Edit: Oh god I just saw this comment now
"another epic push once we hear some more information on the marketplace :) "

CloudWolf is double Nigerian.

Using SCII's current system for maps, you won't get to download it right? Or is there any kind of program which will allow that?

Anyway, those models are the property of their maker so it is upon their decision whether or not to make it public...

not really... take some of the custom models from the "very popular" wc3 map, DotA... I think about than 60% of those playing it doesn't know that it wasn't IF who made them or that they weren't even made for DotA... or maybe its much better to say that only people from the modding community knows that it wasn't IF who made them and that they were made for public usage and not really for DotA... and when I say IF, it includes any team member he has, that's why there is an emphasis on the word "some"...

Anyway, I'm looking forward to playing this map when it's released... Haven't played much custom maps in SCII yet... ^_^
