Mastodon's great, but Protest the Hero definitely takes the experimentation further.
Of course that's not the only judge of good music, but PtH is definitely more experimental in nature.

I guess it's because of my morbid fear of bands that have more than just one word in their names lol. I'm a bit wary of those kind of bands because I automatically assume them to be (insert genre here)-core. But PtH is pretty cool after listening to that. Kinda remind me of Between the Buried and Me.

That's a bit of a quick assumption to make that any band with multiple words spelled correctly for their name is a metalcore/hardcore band. But yeah, PtH is pretty crazy in their writing, even their bassist has talent which is rare in metal bands.

Protest the Hero is okay. I don't consider them amazing though. It's definently not one of my influences musically but then again I don't listen to too much of them.

I think Fates Warning is better though because they have street cred in terms of music.

But honestly, I think one band that can easlily blow away PtH is CYNIC

The thing about PtH is that their music is so diverse it's hard to catalogue even one song in a single genre. It's just amazing.

Hammerfall is pretty cool. One of my favorite Swedish Metal bands as a matter of fact. Also, one of Blizzard's artists does regular artwork for them.

DON'T RUIN IT. In Flames is an awesome band pre-Clayman and post-Clayman. It's just as bad as referring to Sepultura as two different bands: Old Sepultura and New Sepultura. It's the same fucking band, it's still awesome. Derrick Green is just as good as Max Cavalera. It's the same with In Flames.

Well, my original intention was to basically base a map around Joey Demaio and make him run around calling people motherfuckers and killing them. lol

but now I just want to make a brutal map with new races, everything. But it's going to be very metal. A black metal faction, a death metal faction, a power metal faction, and a prog metal faction.
