Hello chaps, here's something for you :)

I've been working on and off on this terrain for roughly two weeks, and got inspired to do it in two folds:

One being that during the build-up to the Legion pre-patch for WoW I started a gnome mage, and really
liked it, so I figured I wanted to create a terrain revolving (slightly) around that character. So this is
basically her... Library or something.

The other one being from Dark Souls 3, namely the area called "The Grand Archives" and that one shot
from GoT season 6 where you get to see the library in the Citadel, both inspired me a lot to make the
terrain like this.

I hope you like it ^^

Also, a special thanks to fladdermasken for helping me discover a whole new way of doing
lighting that I never knew existed :)

I think that I mentioned in chat but saying it again: damn good piece of work mate ^^

I like the feel and look you've got going plus that lighting work. It just adds more dynamism and life to the interior while framing it so well.
Probably, I'd just say that the lower blank walls seem too...empty for me, same for the upper level bookcases.

You could've ditched that chandelier in the middle. It feels that the weight there is unnecessary.

Good job all 'round the edges!

That's a beautiful scene. I really like the mood and the hints of purple. The architecture and the lighting really does the job. However if I were that gnome I wouldn't have such a large personal library... damn, imagine yourself having to clean the dust from all that. That's just too much work.

Firstly, thank you guys, you're all too kind :)

I'd just say that the lower blank walls seem too...empty for me, same for the upper level bookcases.

Yeah, I may do something about it, I originally planned on having some more bookcases and tables
up there. But in the end I was just so happy about the result that I sort of just wanted to publish it.

I don't have the map on this computer, so it'll be a while until I can update it, if I decide to.

You could've ditched that chandelier in the middle. It feels that the weight there is unnecessary.

Why, thank you! It totally wasn't a complete bitch to make and took me some pains and sweat
to complete, you're so considerate! ;)

However if I were that gnome I wouldn't have such a large personal library... damn, imagine yourself having to clean the dust from all that. That's just too much work.

In my mind it's not only hers, other scholars and students come and go and help out as well,
she only owns it and runs it. I also like to imagine that she kind of found it like this, like an
abandoned library of sorts with hidden secrets and such. That only some of it is things she
brought with her :) I originally planned on constructing a skeletal raptor on that middle podium,
and if I somehow can get my hands on the right sort of doodads, I may still do that. This would
be part of the extended lore that is Eynie, she's as much an archaeologist as she is a wizard ^^

I also originally planned on having more stuff around the place to indicate that it's
inhabited by a gnome mage and archaeologist, if I decide to update it I might add
more stuff.

what is that totally new way of creating lightning?

You know, I would explain it, but I think it'd be a really long and complicated explanation, even if
it is kind of simple. Maybe I'll make a separate thread, sort of like a tutorial, where I explain it.

But maybe there are others who might do such a thread better than me, as I am actually pretty
new to this technique. Maybe fladdermasken? ;)

Well bloody damned, an amazing piece!
I feel the peace of that sunlight, so dynamic, although, the candles on both sides provides unnecessary attention while being dark and all just hurts my eyes.
Man, this got me interested in this. Do you actually have lores about this structure? :)

This is really good, like I said over Skype. I'm also a huge fan of the effect the window and sunlight provides.

Only thing that could use some more love is, like already pointed out and replied to, the shelves up top. Not absolutely necessary, but it could make this level up even further with more details there.

But maybe there are others who might do such a thread better than me, as I am actually pretty

I've actually already explained it. :V

The trick is basically to make the scenery completely black and then add light sources/models separately. That way you have nigh complete control of shadows and lighting. I've used this for several of my terrains.

This piece has so many amazing small details. I keep bringing my face closer to the screen to see them all.

Amazing work as usual!
