[x.] Introduction [.x]

So, you all thought it was dead did you? Ahahaha.

I have been given the reigns to the megalithic, and increasingly popular RTS mod Europe Before Rome. Here, I would like you all to post suggestions, additions, offer models, et cetera, and I will keep you updated on the status of the next release.

I have several ideas that I would like to see implemented. If you disagree, or have additions to this list, please speak up!

horizontal-rule-small.png

-Implementation of new epic terrain

-Forests, rivers, other doodads placement

-Overhaul of triggers to vJass

-Custom techtrees for each faction

-Custom unit-trees for each faction

-New factions

-Expanded tooltips(Custom bars, et cetera. Also, explaining exactly what each thing does, its historical role, et al)

-Expanded roll of city devolopment (more than a simple Town>City>Huge City system).

-Infrastructure: trade routes, roads, et cetera (Probably going to use LlamaNamedOsama's system from Settlers, but with a different type of roads and a castable ability to trade for different resources (coal, iron, et cetera).)

-Reworking of balancing(De-emphasis on Rome and Carthage. Event-specific triggers based on progression of each faction (e.g. Rome knocks the Gauls out of Italy, additional morale for a period of years).)

-Timeline(Based on a combination of history and in-game actions, will trigger certain events (e.g. Rome establishes settlements in Iberia of a certain size, and is at war with Carthage, beginning of the Punic Wars.)

-Heir system (Basically gives a unit a lifespan based on the timeline, and then designates its heirs based on the court.)

-Foley's City Management (modified) [?]

-Settlement/City building from scratch with custom naming system

-Seasons

If anyone could please find or make possible models to be implemented to the game, post them here! Your name will be featured for at least 30 seconds in the on-screen credits at the beginning of the game!

Holy god 5 posts within a day? 3 of them within 3 minutes of each other!
No Double posting

No Rude Bumping

As per your map, I really like the idea. It's a good concept, I like history, especially that general era.

More screen shots of the terrain would be nice, not needed but nice.

I hope you do this map well, most maps like this fail big time because they're boring.

How many/what kind of heroes are you going to use?

Oh also, are you going to have anybody on the British Isles? any of the natives? I skimmed over the list you gave and didn't see one.

@ the spamming comments: appologies? :O

@ Arvedui:

Screenshots are coming, as the map does. I need to finish the mountains. I think I'm redoing the Balkans region mountains from Blizzard cliffs to custom, random mountains. At this point I'm fixing the terrain (which is 480x480 in NewGen), and I plan next to ascertain the cities/settlements to be included and their positions. I'm not certain yet, but I think I am going to allow users to build new towns from scratch and name them themselves, with extreme expense and realism, however.

As far as boringness goes, this one ranks about 8 on that scale. Its going to be heavily historical and drenched in politics and government, as well as historicity. I will try and cater to the needs of my base and make it user friendly enough that noobs can choose a small tribe in the middle of no where and be safe enough long enough to learn the game.

And you didn't? o_O? The Britons are the longest list of tribes on the list.
Preteni
Belgica [C]
Silures [C]
Ordovicians [C]
Caledonians [C]
Brigantes [C]
Darini [C]
High Kingdom of Ireland [C]

That is the list of playable factions in the isles.

Ahhh I see. Lol sorry, must have saw glazed over it >.> I was tired when i wrote that lol.
Well I wish you luck. Take a look in the models section, there's an awesome trebuchet model by olofmoleman. hmm, there are very few models for that time period though. :(

Good luck on your map. +rep for giving a good detailed overview, and response.

No problem, whatsoever!

I am developing the map primarily on X767.com (go check it out, although it is currently the official home of the diplo/historical clan LSI, it is soon opening to all people, regardless of clan affiliation), and I need a base of people anticipating its release, as I am unmotivated at the moment.

I have the time to take screenshots of several areas in-game, if you would like?

And I already have that and many other models to install (I have approximately 15 downloaded, with perhaps 6 already uploaded).

I'm going to place the first city soon as a model for the rest, and I suppose I will place that screenshot as well.

^^

Discuss: Custom models for trees and wotnot, worth the file size bump?

It really depends on how many custom models for units you intend on using. I personally would opt not to have them at first. Then if the map space allows add them for extra flavor and whatnot. But that's my opinion.

There will be literally thousands of trees.

I am aiming for realistic sizes.

Cities, for example, are almost tiny, with a LOT of open space.

I meant how many custom models are you going to use in the entire map. How many are you uploading? I'd say get all your units done and then if you have enough map space left then change the models of the trees.

I'm going to probably have around 1.5 MB at the end, possibly more, after optimization.

I'm trying to squeeze as many models in as I can.

hmm yeah.. well, then I say go for it. Then try it on bnet before releasing and if it lags too much, change them back.

Not what I'm talkin' about. :p

Models can make games lag simply due to their file size.

And it increases DL time.

I approve of your new half-sig, by the way.

I currently have about 20-25 models in one of my maps and it doesn't lag when I play it on the internet to test it.

How many are you thinking of having?

Ha, thanks.

If you want to hear the vury LATEST on it, or get involved with it, you could always go check out its home here.

But I'll try and get the stuff to Hive as much as possible.

Call me Hoarmurath, or Hoar for short. =)

New screenies of the epic terrain modifications I made. ;]

Major setback.

I was importing a tile, and didn't notice that it was in TGA format.

And it caused massive tile shifts across the map, and I was STUPID enough to save over the file.

Which is indicative that now I must redo the tileing for the entire map, almost.

It does mean, however, that I can be more thorough in pathing (as originally I hadn't used the system in which stone was unwalkable).

Good news however, is that I have acquired the vJass necessary for my river fording system (in which units can cross the water in rivers).

I'll post more info on this soon! ;]
