Introduction:

Thorn Stormwild, once the leader of an elite sniper team, now living out the rest of his days in Deerwood,
putting his shooting skills to use as a hunter, when suddenly strange things start happening in Deerwood
one night and Thorn must come out of retirement to face this new threat.

Features:

This Single player RPG is made only by me, johannesr, with the exception of models, skins and some custom spells
(Credits are under optional quests in the map). It took me about 3 years to make this, although i worked on it on and off.

Comment: This is pretty much your average single player RPG, with a rather generic storyline and of course, quests and quests!
The skills fit the heroes, they may not be very flashy and satisfying, but they're quite useful, especially the wolf which can tank for the hunter.
The hunting feature gets barely mentioned in-game and is thus almost unnecessary and completely left out.
The dialogue cutscenes feel empty and dead, add some camera movement and make the units face each other and while you're at it, fade out the screen for 0.5s so that you can move the units to some preset points and then fade in again.
And make a cutscene trigger when you come close to the guy, not enter a region.
The map is OK, the combat is simple, the only differen thing about it would be the ammo system, which is kind of neat and also the different types of ammo make it more special.
(BTW you open a gigantic gate when invisible and the guy standing guard in front of it doesn't notice anyhting? ;D)
The best aspect of the map would be the terrain, it's very vivid and matches realistic forests in some way, with a lot of grass and bushes.
There are some missing pathings here and there though.
Overall, it's nothing too new and it does get boring after a while, but it can be fun for certain RPG players.

(P.S. Reset the camera for the player after the cutscene in the crystal mines where everyone gets killed)

I'm playing this now, I'm up to the quest that requires me to get help from the elven people. It's an awesome map so far, great idea of the 3rd person shooter style hunting.

Although I cant help but feel it might be a bit unbalanced since from the very start, people can simply go hunting until they have enough money to buy the sniper rifles?
To prevent this, you could make those more powerful rifles be accessible by reaching a certain level first, what do you think? That way you wouldnt be able to be too powerful early on with simply hunting a lot. . .

Oh no I have found a huge bug in the game.. lol.
After you form an alliance with the elves, and the elves ask you to kill something in river to the east, and the cinematic ends, you are in control of one huntress and one archer... but you cannot control Thorn at all. And the elves that you CAN control are trapped behind the elves that you cant control! LOL. Please fix this... I wanna keep playing :p I took a screen shot but how can I send it to you?

I loaded the game and did that part again, and it worked. I think it didnt work before because before the cinematics started, I didnt have Thorn selected, I had the elves selected. I had him selected before the cinematic started and it worked :).

*EDIT: Another bug. After you come back from ridding the lake of the monster for the elves, and you come back and a cinematic starts and you are given another hero to control,
once you click that new hero, the same cinematic that just finished starts all over again.

*EDIT I am now up the part where the alliance has just finished killing the nearby cave area of mutants.
I forgot to mention that there is a bug when it comes to stacking items. If you dont have any spare slots, you cannot buy more ammo; the ammo only stacks
if you have a spare slot in your inventory. Not a major bug really, just would be nice if you could buy ammo without having to drop an item for 3 seconds.

@EternaLife You can put the screenshot in the THW pastebin (top left corner near models n stuff) and pm me a link.

I didn't think the hunting was unbalanced bc it wasn't that easy, would take quite some time to farm the sniper rifles. I suppose i could add a level req to the snipers tho.

Also weird that these bugs have never happened to me before, i've played those parts through like 20 times. Thanks for reporting tho, i'll look in to these when i have spare time.

Im flattered :) Terrain probably isn't on par with my current terraining skills since i started this before i started terraining and it would be too much to rework all the terrain now. However i think the terrain is pretty decent as it is.

There is also a great difference between art terrain, and play terrain.
I mean Art terrain is the terrain viewed from it's best side, and doesn't have any restrictions with pathing and such.
While playable terrain is viewed from all sides and must have pathing to stop you from running through buildings.

it is hard to make a map with art terrain and great gameplay.
I have respect for all those who are able to combine these to ways of terrain :goblin_yeah:

Anyway seems interesting, And I am currently bored of multiplayers
So let's see what we've got here then.

You're right about hunting, it isn't all that easy, especially at night time. It would take players a long long time to save up 2200 gold. But level requirements would stop them from boring themselves to death :p

Hmm....level cap for new rifle models?I don't really think so.It takes a couple of hours to grind for those rifles,not to mention bout the bullets and pots cost.

By the way,a suggestion.Make some additional rifle attachments such as reloader,or a mini grenade launcher,that'll be cool.And likewise,all bugs reported by EternaLife was found to be true,and please make the potions extra charges at least(1 pot for 150G?!Ripoff....)

*EDIT: Oh another bug I have found is that when you purify the treeants, the hotkey is P, but P is patrol, so P does not work for purifying shortcut.

*EDIT: Another bug is that I could only find 14 treants of the 15 treants from the given quest.
However, when I went back to the quest giver, it said quest completed. I still have 1 purifying thing left.

By the way the green elves are titled as "Dwarves", I think that needs to be fixed?

Another bug is that when I found the hidden treasure behind that huge rock after I paid 200 gold to that guy who told me about it,
there is no quest completed at all.. even though I picked up all of the treasures.

LAST WORDS FOR NOW: Well I am now officially stuck. For the main quest, I cannot find where to go for the "Get to the village of the forest elders" quest, or where that is. I've searched everywhere. I've gone to every possible place but nothing happens. And also, I can only find 3 out of 4 explosives for the optional quest "Find the explosives".

Hope to hear from you soon - I'm still enjoying this map a lot :)

some bugs

ok.i got to the part when you need to escort the researcher to your town.then you go into a mutant spawn and cinematics starts while your hero gets killed. major bug.

then when you finish the mission with the poisoned treant and the murlocs each time you click on them you receive a reward.(i got my hero to lvl 20 instantly)

the game is awesome by the way and the hunting mod is amazing :D (just after some cinematics iz stays in hunting mod and doesnt return to normal view )

you complain about the explosives.but all you gotta do is find them.3 in town and 1 in crystal mines by the log

i did take him to the small village. and then he sad he needs to go to my town for resources.so i looked for a way and saw that i i died i regret my not saving :(

Then I'm already at the elders village. What do I do now? I walk around there is no one that has a quest giving icon there. Is this a bug?

Like I said, the purifying treants gives me a "quest completed" even though there are only 14 possible treants there to be purified...

#EDIT: If I download the new version of the map, will my save game from the previous version work for the new version map??

#EDIT: I just found the answer to my own question... no it doesn't work!!! I cant believe it, I have to start the RPG from the very beginning :(

Didnt you get a cinematic when you entered the elders village? Purifying treants is just an optional quest, you don't have to do it and you just get more rewards the more treants you purify (minimum 10), im not sure why you couldnt find the last one but its not a big deal.

Thus far I like the storyline and the map, terrain is nice except for one thing which I'll explain later (visually it's great).

[Bugs/Problems]
I had the most powerful sniper rifle and 600 bullets before I even went to hunt the first mutant at the very start so that's gotta be fixed somehow, I had nothing to work towards from the start of the game basically.

Hunting is far too easy, I just switched over to my melee mode, and then set up a short patrol path in the racoons area and killed racoons over and over and over till I had a huge amount of gold. I could do this only because the racoons try to attack me (even though they have 0 attack they still come to me so I don't have to chase them).

Now about the terrain, because of the closeness of enemies who are kept apart only by small rows of trees, I was able to use the sniper rifle to kill pretty much every enemy through the trees so they couldn't get to me... I killed the mutant squid in the river, by standing near the dock, well out of range of the mutants, and sniping it. Something either needs to be done with range, or you gotta make it so you cant shoot enemies through stuff lol

Too add onto that, I actually killed all the enemies in the cave, so when the cinematic where the mutants break through the gate and attack the outpost is supposed to happen... nothing happens... we're all just standing by the gate stuck waiting for the mutants to attack >_< So I can't continue any further.

Hmm i gotta balance hunting mode some more and disable melee during it, it's meant to be done with your rifle, i don't think the raccoons were attacking you, they just run around the area a lot. You had so much range because you had the sniper rifle, which wasn't meant to be got early. Also the killing through trees... did you enable "iseedeadpeople"?

Hmmmm the raccoons may not have been attacking me, but they were running towards me... at the very least they weren't running away from me. I also noticed a couple times that one of the NPC hunters would enter the hunting area and shoot one of the raccoons cause it got too close. I think the raccoon area could be fixed by making it bigger. Cause Deer hunting works, the deer run from you and there's actually enough room for them to run away in, but even when they run I can usually still get 1 melee attack off before they get out of range. So if it's possible, you should disable melee mode while hunting.

Anywho I'm thinking that maybe if you make deer/raccoon drop their fur after you kill them, which you have to pick up and then sell, it will make hunting a little more difficult. Or limit how many deer/raccoon can be hunted every day. Either way it would put a stop to most people getting the best items at the start of the game.

And yea I did use the "iseedeadpeople" cheat, always do when I'm testing a new map so I can judge the entire terrain. If that's why I could shoot through the trees then I guess that solves that problem lol but you should probably make the mutants inside the cave invincible till the gate is destroyed anyway just encase.

Hmm,I don't see the point there.Say,If your rifle ran out of bullets while hunting,and bayonet is disabled=DISASTER IN HUNTING.
Unless if ya make a RIFLE SPECIALLY FOR HUNTING(like the basic starting rifle,just with unlimited ammo throughout hunting).

Suggestion:
Make hunting LIMITED ONLY ON DAY,not NIGHT.That should settle the farming probs.
Or make exclusive,unique rifles that can only be obtainable via Quests,Mob Drops or Recipes.

PS:BTW I'd yet to dwnload the lastest map,so now I'm re-downloading it.
And on my previous gameplay,I just gt the Advanced Dwarven RifleIII(eats Type one Ammo) and that was enough for me to clear almost de whole game.

If you ran out of ammo just walk out of the hunting area and get more ammo lol how is that a disaster? the Ammo dealer is like 5 steps away from the entrance of the Raccoon hunting zone and about 10 steps from the Deer hunting zone lol far from a disaster as it would take you like 12 seconds to run back, buy ammo, and get back to the hunting zone.

Yes I agree with RayChaos, you should only be able to hunt at night time, to stop people from easily getting the best weapon so early on, or simply make the rifles unobtainable until a certain level is reached.
Also I have a great idea. Allow the possibility of getting rifle attachments, but perhaps only for the best rifles. Possible attachments for the rifles could include :

* Double Barrel (shooting two guys at once)
* Grenade launcher (some other guy made this suggestion earlier)
* Super Super long range shot where you can scroll the map a bit to target an enemy(obviously has a very large cool down and perhaps uses 3 bullets instead of 1)
* Shot that attacks everything in a line
* Shot that throws a net and pins down the enemy

Wee....Cleared the game using only Advanced Dwarven Rifle III!!!!

That was one hell of a map,but I barely made it with potions!!
Nice storyline,robust gaming experience!!
BTW,when's part 2?

PS:Oh ya found a minor bug,when ya went to Murloc Village in the Swamp after helping it to defend the Village from the Swamp Ghoul Onslaught and whenever I try to left the Village,sometimes Thorn will be stuck briefly in the area.Why is this so?

How about the optional quest to find the four explosives? Did you make sure there are four?

There absolutely should be a cinematic there. Theres a trigger that runs when Thorn goes through the gate. There's no reason why the trigger didn't run, wc3's fault i guess :/ And yes there's 4 explosives, look harder.

The problem with extra items (attachments) is that it takes more inventory room and the inventory is small enough as it is.

Anyway, i gave the advanced and sniper rifles level requirements. Changed hunting mode: now you have an ability to shoot the animals as i discovered that using attack-move on the area makes the hunter auto-attack all the animals -_-

@RayChaos Glad you liked it :) I probably won't be making a part 2, the storyline was pretty much wrapped up anyway. How/where exactly did Thorn get stuck?

Hey Johan, in the swamp I brought all the ingredients, the 3 shimmerweed and the dragpon venom and the empty vial to the waterfall, but nothing is happening. What should I do?

*EDIT somehow after changing inventory items and swapping and dropping stuff it finally worked, I dont know how :p

I downloaded the latest version, but even without using the iseedeadpeople cheat I was still able to stand on the side of the river and kill the mutant squid and it's tentacles from a distance using the MKIII rifle.

I like what you did with the hunting but for some reason the Raccoons are now leaving the hunting area and getting killed by the hunters lol

EDIT: Ugh I'm stuck in another cinematic. I'm talking to the hunter who tells you about the hidden locations, I did the first one. But I didn't have 300 gold so I had to turn down the 2nd one. When I went back and asked him I paid the 300 gold and got the location, I then went and did it. I went back to the hunter and spoke to him but he asked me again if I wanted to know the location of the 2nd hidden area which I had already paid for and finished. So I selected "No"... but now I'm stuck, we're just standing there.

Reality Shift Bug :

After arriving at those two ghost archmages, one of the footman that was with me was teleported to some other place and died quickly, but then Thorn and the other footman started walking south in the forest towards some trolls. Just above the trolls I cannot proceed, I could only spawn my wolf and help it kill the trolls. When I walk back to those two ghost mages nothing happens at all... what do I do?

How do I get those guardians to send me to teleport me to that place? Only my footman got teleported there

Exactly after the event Shalis deceased from the BogLord and went missing,then whenever I wanted to leave the village after the event(to restock ammo as the village had no vendor) and whenever I tried somehow I got stuck near the entrance.Took me a few tries every time just to get to the darn explorer's camp.

@EternaLife Ah, my footmen never survived until that point which is why i didn't encounter this bug, unfortunately you can't do anything, i hope you had a save :/

Dam it! I will not start this RPG all over again.. it took me too long.. this would be third time of starting over, with this time being the furtherest I've gotten.
I really wanted to finish it. But great job on the map though, despite those small bugs. Since they can easily be fixed, I'm still giving this map a 5 :).

Thanks man, I really look forward to your next map

hey . i dont know if this is a bug but in the cave i killed the demon lord an put this gem on the altar then i killed the 4 ghosts an give the 4 orbs in the obeliks but Shalis lie down on the ground an i cant move her please help me out :)

same bug when i played,.. wasnt able to make Shalis move but when i killed the giant spider just with the rifleman, Shalis appeared in the cinematic.

another bug found.. i didnt get the promised Torch as a reward =(

There is a lot of bugs, and here is few that i can remember:
1. When you have a gun and right ammo for that and you change the bag, it says that you have wrong ammo. You can fix this by switching to melee mode and then back to rifle mode again tho.

2. When i rescued Shalis, she didn't get unpaused. He just lied there and i couldn't do anything...

This was pretty fun map until that Shalis bug and i couldn't keep going :p

suggestions:
1: i think you should not be able to kill allies and destroy their buildings AND not to destroy your own items!!
2: you could change the game-interface texts
3: imo you should really protect the map. i wouldn't want of my creation to be accessed by anyone who likes to.
4: you can run around in hunting zones with huntingmode disabled by enabling it and disabling it again when you ran past the sign.
5: racoons give half of the amount of gold that deer give but are almost impossible to kill if you don't use the glitch of "4". maybe just remove some grass in the racoon hunting zone.
6: Please just give the player the money back and return the item if he doesn't meet the level conditions or let him carry it but not use it (replace with dummy item)
7: i don't get how the bag works. When i click it just nothing happens; either it's a bug or you just didn't tell how to use it. you can even SELL your bag
8: Please include a custom save system to prevent having to restart from the beginning whenever you update this.
9: when you have to go to the elven villlage you can still enter the crystal mines. the monsters in the meantime didn't do anything but got back into the cave out of which they came before. it would be much more understandable if there was a very resistent gate that holds back the monsters (maybe something magical?) to let the dwarfs build up their defenses before the monsters come.
10: if your inventory is full you cannot pick up crystal shards.
11: i'd personally never let the player walk to the map rims (my opinion and rather minor).
12: racoons and deer can leave the hunting area (idk if that's planned - just wanted to add that).
i'd like if you'd fix some of these issues but anyway, good job on this.

1: lol not my fault you feel the urge to kill your friends and items
4: doesn't really matter since you don't have the shoot ability then (hunting system was reworked in new version, i'd advise you to download it before you make too much progress, since it fixes some game breaking bugs)

7: bag is disabled during the invisible cloak mission because it created too many bugs there, otherwise it should work.

thanks for response. the issues i mentioned are just things i'd change if i was the creator. most of the changes are obviously not nessecary though.
1: yeah, i just thought it would make much sense and i guess it isn't hard to do this.
4: i know you don't have the shoot ability (i have the new version) but it is much easier to see where for instance the racoons are located (you see health bars etc.). just swap in hunting mode quickly and you can kill them easily (in some cases at least).
