It's much more comfortable to use custom.

1. You can group them as you wish.
2. You can import / export them.
3. If you use Widgetizer, it's more effective with custom objects (lesser loading time)

And, the most number of spells are usually based on channel (Ancl), so you have to create custom for spells.

Map can have a big loading time, but don't lag.
It can load long, but don't lag, and vice versa.
Lags are usually caused by memfory leaks, or bad trigger algorithms, or by a bad ping of host xD.
Abilities, for example, don't lag, but they increase map size greatly.
One ability with 100 ability levels increases loading time by 10-20 seconds.

I use Vex optimizer. But if the loading time of your map is very long, maybe you should better use Widgetizer.

I have a spell with 500 levels and all the things I wrote in my last post together and a loadtime about 2-3 seconds.

I dont have any problems, but the other ppl in bnet have...

If the map size is too big, they wont have a patience to download the map.
If the map loading time is too long, some of them leave and/or get tired on the waiting.

True, so I try to hold my map under 2mb because I have FAST DL (300 kb/sec)

There know no map that have 2 sec load time.
If you use Widgetizer and your map is very small (except that ability), it's possible.
Or we are talking about different things, maybe you mean not loading time, but downloading time?

Edit: Omg =) I thought you are all talking about the loading time... So the question of the 1st post is wrong. Widgetizer decreases loading time, not download time. Download time depends only on the map size.

I am saying that the loading time in the bnet before playing is around 2-3 sec, even in my arena :p
