You might want to add some screenshots and/or a map file in the starter post since this looks more like Idea Factory than development.

Well I have the entire map planned out, most of what I am learning is cleaner ways to do the triggers. a decade ago I made many maps that crashed because I didn't understand leaks and such back then. I used to literally be crazy with leaks... like "uh, spawn 24 units in each of 4 different regions in random locations. that would be interesting. oh! and yea, make it repeat every 5 seconds for the entire game. this certainly won't cause excessive screen tearing, lag, and crashes. 100%. good idea. just spawn and repeat infinitely. oh, and lets make the tank hero have "unit is attacked / attacking unit is him / pick every unit in 900 range and make them attack him. auto taunt, this also won't cause 21 and 1/2 issues early game. its pure brilliance! no one else is making these easy triggers!" lol. Little did I know that the absence of these types of mechanics was not for lack of ingenuity, it is entirely about making a map that works every time it is run. I would do this silly stuff and just wonder why every map crashed after a few minutes of game play.

I can't think of a spot in the map where I need more ideas, I'm mostly just info farming to see how to prevent crashes and lag. This time around I'm putting in the work to clean up the systems before calling the map "finished". My examples above crashed so many maps from leaks, so I really just want to find all the places I need to clean up variables, unit locations, etc... I'm sure there's more I need to know about so I can add actions to clean up leak points. It is a bonus though, to find a new way of doing something. like the use of dummy units/spells, I've made probably over 500 custom spells and never once thought to have a dummy unit just cast an ability for the hero. I'm sure ideas like that will make things easier than doing each individual effect manually via triggers.

I could/should post more, I'm mostly being cautious because I'm not sure the best way to go about posting on the forum. I'm new to posting, never been a rule breaker, and I'm accused of being "risk adverse" in most aspects of life. I just wouldn't want to post in that specific forum and accidentally lead people to the idea that I'm asking for ideas on what to do as far as player experience, what abilities to make, etc... I would feel like I was being rude I guess. idk.

Anyway,
What would be the best thing to screenshot? terrain? unit data? I want to be careful not to completely ruin the story if that's possible xD

Let me know, I'll follow your advice. Thank you.

Piece of gameplay which showcase/attract with important and fun aspects of the map's experience.
Some like reading about heroes and abilities but it depends if you fancy doing tables or organizing such information.

I say it's fairly easy to see what one would expect just by looking at other Map Development threads.

Ah, yea I suppose that would be the fastest way to see, just go look :xxd:

I might say a lot of things while I hang around here, but never once have I said, and never once will I say "I am smart" :xxd::xxd::xxd:

I actually have some time right now so I'll go do that. Then I'll replicate some shots of the map and what the heroes are like as per what others are doing.

Thanks! :)

Ok, I am not sure how to do some of the artistic inserts, so before I upload a sloppy screenshot of the starting zone (was just about too lol) I am going to just look up how people are doing these things. so give me some time and I'll make a nicer and more appealing description with good photos of the map / gameplay / some mechanics / etc....

Thanks again for reaching out, this is good.

Perhaps these would be of some help:

It's a hard task to describe a map accurately yet without making a small novel.
I would say it's VERY hard to get people interested by showing a wall of text, but to be fair the map section is rather low activity in general these days.

I think technical details should be left out entirely for example. Knowing there is 61 or 48 abilities tells me nothing because I lacking critical context. The way respawn works is also near irrelevant along with details such as how good the AI is or how easy it is to die.

Basically I think you can cut out at least half of the post to make it a quicker read of mostly key information

Alright, Today I will up updating the original post. Removing useless info, adding a few screenshots, etc... I'm taking your advice Deepstrasz and chaosy, and I am grateful that you took the time to share the advice with me. I'm starting on it now, should be done before the day is up.

Ok, I completely redid the Original post. I know its not "awesome" but its better than a silly wall of text at least. I do mean it, I am grateful that you all reached out to give me pointers and feedback and show me the right direction. I'll keep getting better at this as time goes on, I learn fast and remember well. Let me know if this version needs work too, won't hurt my feelings at all. "all data is good data." as i've heard.
