Welcome to this tutorial and good luck !
First :
Lets creat a unit named : Mash1
And an other one called : Mash2 ( must be a diffrent model then Mash1 )
Then :
Creat a spell (ex:divine shield) : name it Change unit1.
Lets creat an item (ex: healthing potion) : Name it Change unit2 ( change icon ) and change his capacity competence : to the spell you made.
The triggers :
And voila ! Thats fast and easy
Btw, im french so my wc3 map editor is in french so im trying to translate, sorry if it isnt the exact word.

- Condition : (Item type of ( item been manipulated )) Equal a Change unit2
- Action : Unit - Repalce ( triggering unit ) with a Mash2 using - you choose -
