Well, Canada's done it again. To be more specific, ExtremePC (based out of Ontario) has done it. They are the only company IN THE WORLD to have this card.

And what exactly is it? It's a beast, I'll tell you that much. Extreme PC got a special deal with ATi. The new HD2900XT is built specifically for ExtremePC and features the highest numbers out of anything I've ever seen. It has 1GB of DDR4 memory, an 825 mhz core clock speed, obvious DirectX10 support, and a metric assload of other features.

Here are some numbers taken from the Extreme-PC site. These are benchmark scores from 3Dmark.

Single HD2900XT 1GB DDR4
@default

3Dmark01.......................68753
3Dmark03.......................39360
3Dmark05.......................22842
3Dmark06.......................12944

@overclocking to 858Mhz Core / 1153Mhz (2306Mhz DDR4 Ram)

3Dmark01.......................69669
3Dmark03.......................43351
3Dmark05.......................23978
3Dmark06.......................14439

Dual (CrossFire) HD2900XT 1GB DDR4
@default

3Dmark03.......................60120
3Dmark05.......................26586
3Dmark06.......................19390

For a comparison, here is the Nvidia 8800GTX Ultra in SLI score ($1880 + tax CND in GPUs):

3Dmark06 701/1163 SLi.............19819

This card is ONLY $600 Canadian. Those two 8800GTX together cost over $1800!

If you aren't interested in numbers at all, then here is something to blow you away.

One of these images is a Promotional for the new Need For Speed Prostreet game coming out. Another is the Extreme PC vehicle. Can you tell which one is the real thing?

Mazda RX7 Turbo
NFS_dx10_rx7.jpg

Toyota Supra Twin Turbo
NFS_dx10_supra.jpg

If you didn't spot it, the Supra is the real thing, and the RX7 is the game-generated one. It's amazing!

Here's a look at the card itself:

If you want more info (and all of the specs) then you can take a look at the card here:
http://www.extreme-pc.ca/showproduct.asp?productid=371414&menu1id=12&menu2id=99&menu3id=39

So, if you've got $600 Canadian lying around (It's funny, because it's way cheaper, outperforms, and has more memory then it's more expensive Nvidia counterpart) then you should definetly look into this thing. I personally hope to save up and buy one of these things.

/Discuss or /Grovel, you're choice really.

As much as I'm impressed, that's a little overkill. Might as well wait for a while.

Also, I never liked ATI. Already went through two screwed over cards.

HAH! Seagull, that's good. Have you heard how much screaming is going on about the 8800 and trying to get it to work on Vista? It's a nightmare, and the thing crashes and slows down all the time. I don't hate Nvidia, but why the hell would you shell out $800 for a 768 MB inferior card, when this one, for 600 bucks, kicks up the performance over the heads of even the most expensive of Nvidia's cards.

PS I've been using a Radeon 7500 for 7 years now, and no problems. Haven't had any at all. ATi has served me well.

I love Canadians. Such peaceful and intelligent people.

Awsome card though. Hopefully some will be shipped down here to Australia so I can grab one for my computer.

PFF, you got the prices wrong. 2* 8800GTX cost 299£ odd here, for a total of 600£ for 2 (SLI). Which since we have insane taxes is about 550$ (american), and for that you have 2 graphic cards that DO NOT overheat. From what I have heard almost every top end ATI card has had overheating problems, people have even had them burn out when playing demanding games because they were not made for full power.

Also notice the power difference, the 2 8800s beat the 2 of this card. Also ATI is well known to have major graphical glitches with shadowing (see TES oblivion) while nvedia 8800 works better overall (fewer combatability troubles).

This?

HD2900XT - takes too much power.
8800GTX - no H.264 hardware decode.
The year when everything you want seem to suck.

The 8800 Ultra does cost $780 each. ($1560 for two)

Yep:
8800 Ultra - 500W minimum
HS2900XT - 750W minimum.

It will be. Service Pack 1 shall fix all, and then Vista will be the brand new standard, just like every other MS problem. Look at how fucked up XP was when it came out. The thing was a nightmare. MS always straightens out the major kinks in its shoddy software with a good old service pack or two.

On wikipedia it says the HD2900XT also lacks some kind of HD hardwere decoder, instead it emulates it with shaders. Which proves that they did some budget cuts.

Even still the 2*8800 beat the 2* HD2900XT in graphic ratting and overall the 8800 probably have best compatability and are designed to work cooler (more power used = more heat produced).

The HD2900XT DOES beat the 8800 when it comes to insane resolutions since the extra RAM means that at higher resolutions it works more efficently so expect them as the choice of card for proffesional gaming (large HD screens in gaming turniments).

It's about $600 american too. The Canadian dollar was higher then the American dollar last weekend, so good luck. We're on a role, and the American dollar is at a depressing low, so for once, we're all on the same page! Yay! So yeah, around $600 american, maybe a bit chepaer depending what the exchange is at the time.

no it means the Canadian dollar has become a stronger currency, this is good for Canada. the American currency has been declining for a while now... £1= $2 which makes the GBP one of the strongest currencies in the world (if not the strongest).

At February of last year GBP was double Canadian dollar >.> Paying 15 GBP a month for Eu City of Villains? I think not. $27 a month it would have cost me, just to play on the EU servers with my Euro friends.

well, British companies love to exploit the British people...high pay = high prices im afraid. but if i were to work in Britian and have my family in america i would be able to send them money where it goes alot further, mainly because everything here cost so damn much.

anyways £15 is one of the more expensive ones, WoW is £8.99 and most are £5-£10
