Blending alpha in HD graphics

Back in Classic WC3 you could make some Transparent layers look less jaggy by putting a Blend layer on top of it. Look at the hair below:

Might not be the best example, but you get the idea. The edges look "blurry" because Blend mode can render Alpha from 0 to 255, but Transparent mode can only render either Alpha 0 or 255. Using Blend on its own causes alpha sorting issues, so Blend gets put on top a Transparent or None layer for best effect without the issue.
The thing is, in Reforged, HD Graphics makes it so that each material can only have 1 Diffuse layer (or so). Due to this, I haven't figured out the way to achieve the effect I want in Classic graphics. Does anybody have an idea how?
