Put all skillpoints in Str/Const and get some medium/good equipment...u need hateful strike and shield slam (shield needed) for interrupts too. He casts 4 types of spells, here is what to do with each.
1. Fire strike - Interrupt
2. Shadow bolt? - Keep fighting
3. Heal - Interrupt
4. Fire Nova - Run behind pillar and use healing salve, then return fast (especially if next spell is one to interrupt)
Just a question of timing.

You can also buy potions, it helps ( 1 green one and one red one so that they have a different cooltime).
( Oh and before changing classes, farm the bosses so you have the abilities only learneable by squire and not berserkers)

What?
You don't need to (and should not) buy any potions. AFAIK all potions share the same cd. Just use the salve provided in the arena.
This quest (like most class quests) requires timing more than anything else. You can do it without any d2 gear but green gear from birds/ogres will definitely help.

Here's the best gear you can get to do your squire guild quest before d3 or foothills.
Head: Gnoll helmet from lvl 12-15 gnolls, very rarely drops from lvl 20-21 gnolls
Chest: Well crafted harness from lvl 20-21 gnolls, though it's got a pretty low drop rate
Misc: The wall, mostly drops from crows, very rarely drops from ogres
Accessory: Soldier gauntlets from Ancient One in d2 or craft searing gloves, you can buy the recipe from the woman in that house near lvl 13 gnolls with materials that drop in d2
And for weapon you can literally wear anything, you can buy hammer or blacksmith's sword from that blacksmith in mytargas, or there's protector's blade which gives 9 ap and 2 armor if u wanna go for armor

More important than perfect gear is probably to have all the spells. Having Parry, Hateful, Gaping and Revenge (!!!) is useful since the fight is mostly hit'n'run so your damage comes from your spells.

If you tried it a thousand times you would have succeed at least 970 of those. Listen, I've seen new people claiming to "hide" behind the pillar, while they are just standing semi-covered by it. You have to go full cover behind the pillar (so you can't see the shaman you are fighting), otherwise you will be hit, even if it looks like you are covered.
Saying that the obvious tactics are "bullshit" only makes you look silly by the way. We have been doing this since 2010, so don't try to teach us that it doesn't work.

I'm not saying that the tactics are bullshit, i'm fighting with tactics, i'm saying that IT DOES NOT WORK, no mater how i hide it hits me every time and i think the only way is to get the full build and kill him fast as you can, and if you don't belive me i'll give you my skype, i'll host a game and you'll see.

When I last tried, then the pillar didn't protect me either. It's just that if you run far enough behind it, then you actually run out of the spell area too.
This class quest can be done on your own terms though.
I did it with a lvl 25 squire that had loot from anything I could kill with a healer merc. I also bought some small potions from mytargas, as the salve seemed pointless to me(I wasn't able to avoid taking hits and at first I thought the salve has too limited charges).
Yes, the quest took some practice to do, but I finished it.
Ofc it might also be that the pillar does protect from fire, but not if you stand too close to it.
In any case, my point is that this quest can be done without quirks such as hiding behind the pillar.
Note: Didn't have Revenge. Only bought spells iirc.

Esp the part that reveals I always cheat in my single players. Shuda cut that out.

@ProvaLooZero: Re-download the map here. Your fire nova looks weird to me somehow. And it's not supposed to go through the pillar. Perhaps it's yet another bug from the first 1.2a8 map.

If you can still see the orc, then he will hit you. Move behind the pillar in a way that it truly blocks vision and you should be save.
Also, it might be possible that the map reveal cheat you used might make the encounter bug, as it possibly also reveals the map for the computer, which means he can see you = kills you. Try again without cheats and you should be fine.

I didn't reveal it with cheat, that's from the options before starting the game, if that's considered a cheat i wont do it but i'm playing local game so can't cheat

OK tested it out and confirmed. Visibility is exactly what causes this.
The salve bug is an entirely different story. This never existed. It's just this version, to your misfortune. It gotta be fixed soon though. (*looks weird at somebody*)

Yes. Any removal of fog of war seems to let the aoe reach you, like zwieb said. I tried it in single player to be able to toggle visibility with iseedeadpeople and when I did, the pillar didn't stop nova any more.

No offense guys but this thread was painful to go through. In the screenshot ProvaLooZero posted you can obviously see that he's too far away from the pillar. I finished this my 3rd try when I was still a noob, and I used to stand very close to the pillar. There's no bug whatsoever, just a HUGE misunderstanding. Also I'd suggest you don't call something bullshit if you can't execute it properly.
Also, about the map visibility, with this map even if you check the reveal option before starting the game, it still shouldn't reveal the map if I remember correctly. So this is either a single player mode with iseedeadpeople cheat, or some sort of program if you're playing on local (like the cheat engine)
