Island Wars as you may have noticed from the thread title is a mix between a capture the flag type map and an altered melee. The object of Island Wars is to capture the four fountains in the center of the map, while the distance between them is very little the only way to get from one fountain to another is by using waygates at the far corners of the map.

Island Wars puts the High Elves against the Blood Elves, how are they differant you say well I'll explain it to you, Island Wars is set in the WarCraft 3 universe and takes place after IceCrown (cue people leaving thread in disgust), the Blood Elves end up fleeing to the Naga isles were they find a source of magic and then have a huge war with the Naga there and in the end have them all in one little Naga perserve (like a nature perserve but with bloodthirsty naga). The general Aldos wants to kill the Naga wipe them off the face of the earth while Kael doesn't think that is right. Worst comes to worst and Aldos attempts to kill Kael, Kael sees it coming and orders Aldos to him imediatly Aldos flees with a large group of supporters and ends up declaring war on the Blood Elves, we've got ourselves her an ol' fashion civil war. Aldos and his supporters rename themselves the High Elves in recognition of their glorious past and not the recent events.

Island Wars has, at the moment, three game types, it has..
  • Classic
  • Defend the fountain
  • Quick mode

Classic mode was the only mode until recently. In classic mode your team and the other team are trying to capture the fountain, but you have 10 minutes of time to prepare before you can actually capture to build up a base.

Defend the fountain is basically classic but each team starts out with two of the four fountains.

Quick mode has each team start out with only a hero and a ship and there is no pre-game time to strategize and build, you just jump right into capturing.

In all these modes you must capture all four of the fountains and have them all at once to win.

I think that covers just about everything so go and try the newest version, below...
