Review - Freezing Koi
(Version August 2nd 2023)
Synopsis: Freezing Koi is a melee map for two players featuring beautifully crafted terrain. Freezing Koi can be highly recommended for a standard melee match in a new environment.
Map Aesthetics: The map is visually very pleasant with a very natural look to the terrain, great job. Only a couple of spots break the immersion with too sharp ramps or bumps, but overall the craft is well done. The thematic detail is also carried onto creep camps which gives the map an extra layer of depth.
Map Layout: The layout is correctly mirrored and thus balanced. The seemingly simple layout works well: various routes around the map are provided with enough spacing in between, while strategic key points (Expansions, Mercenary Camp) can be utilized smoothly while traversing the map.
Neutral Objectives: Creep camps fit their immediate surroundings very well. The creep composition looks appropriate with fitting item drops and difficulty levels. I like the proximity of the Mercenary Camp that can also be used offensively, though defensive usage is still more likely due to the location between the base and the first expansion. Similar play happens with the second expansion and Goblin Laboratory on the route. Nice work.
Map Gameplay: The gameplay follows the standard melee ruleset. Overall fine work. Positioning of the neutral objectives can give a flavor to the gameplay that should still expectedly follow quite a standard route.
Notes:
The map description mentions a video, but I don't think one is linked here.
