Bionicle Visorak

This bundle is marked as pending. It has not been reviewed by a staff member yet.
Visorak. The stealers of life. The mutators. The infestors. The poisonous scourge.

There are currently no Bionicle or Bionicle-themed resources that can be found publicly on the Hive. Let's fix that.

These models are based off the Scarab/Carrion Beetle model, so that's which in-game unit it fits the best, in terms of object editor stats. I very much recommend setting Maximum pitch and roll angles to 0 because otherwise they clip through the floor near cliffs. Also IMO heavy metal slice is the best effect sound for their attacks.

Skins uses adapted official Bionicle cannister art of the Visorak, plus art and sculptures by H R Giger, including photos of the Giger bar taken by Andy Davies.

Please give credit if used in any way.

Hope to see some other artists have a crack at putting Bionicle aesthetics into Warcraft 3.

Update 1: edited death animations and added more fitting death sounds.
Update 2: Slightly increased the speed of attack animations (with the default speed, the attack was hitting before the jaws connected)

BTW the small glitch that can be seen on Oohnorak in the walking gif has not appeared in any of my many tests or in Magos since. Must've been a one off, don't take it as representative.

Some extra goodies - the PNGs I used for the icons (yes I know that I can upload raw PNGs and get every item variation on the bundle page, but I just wanted to just have the BTN and DISBTN cos it looks neater) and the maps I made for screenshots! They were just made for screenshot purposes so playability is very limited but hopefully they're still useful or just interesting. Do what you like with them.

Bionicle bois, lets gooooo!!!!

High filesize but I'm also scum who still doesn't use Reforged, so that's just a skill (and wallet) issue :hohum:
Hehe thanks! And I don't use reforged either, I"m on 1.27b I just don't really worry about filesize much. Anyone is welcome to optimise them or however you reduce model filesize

Hmm, there should decay bone and decay flesh animations to make this model a fully usable unit.
You based this off the Scarab and those do not have decay animations because they are summons, but I think it might be better to have those animations.
That's a good point. I don't know how to add decay bone and flesh animations, but I can modify the death animations to make them seem a bit more believable.

It is not hard to learn and having the gutz stay is better than doing something than something fidgey that does not look like a normal wc3 unit.

Can you link me to a tutorial? Also they're Bionicle so the traditional gutz texture wouldn't work. I should make a cyborg gutz texture.

I don't think I'll try normal decay animations right now but anyone else is welcome to do so. I did some glowy 'discorporate' animations instead.

The file size thing is odd, now that you mention it. On my computer and in the test maps, the models are all 98 kb each. I downloaded the bundle and they are likewise 98 kb. But the model info on this page says they're all over 200. Is it including the textures as well, which are of a higher file size?

I grew up with these. I even imagined some units using the same theme.
Dayum that was not even in my bucket list !
I would however welcome TC alternate versions.
I would not deny a fellow Bionicle fan their not-bucket list item. Check the bundle again :)

(I couldn't make it fully Team Coloured as the jaws need to be transparent)

Yes, I believe so. From what I understand, Hive includes textures as a part of the model's total kb. If you are interested, I'd love to take a look at the little guys and give a go at retexturing them using in-game sources! I can't promise the outcome will be peak or anything, but it would at minimum be a fun project for me while I get over being sick and call some people to find housing... :hohum:

Edit to add: I meant to include a link to tutorials that could teach the gutz animation in question but maybe that would just be more fun for me to put together myself. And if I did... I could create a tutorial bespoke for such a thing  But perhaps I am becoming overconfident and overpromising on my skills...

Edit 2: Hmm... understanding visibility using retera's and Magos has been a bit of a harder task than I'd realized. Maybe after a little additional time I'll throw something in these comments, as I've enjoyed working on the wrap and model edits (despite my amateur skills in such fields) but I'm not confident I'll figure out how to implement an entirely scratch-made set of decay animations for a model that doesn't have them inherently all on my own.

Edit 3: in case anyone is following - I have made some progress on what I am hoping will be a proper version of this model with ingame textures + spider gutz for decay, assuming my current understanding of visibility transfer continues to expand. I plan on adding several fitting animations but am not 100% sure the burrowing animation will remain. I'm pretty excited though so hopefully, assuming I'm not too burnt out by work in the coming days, I'll have some work to show for it aside from these WIPs I've added below. (I'm currently working on Suukorak / the White one for a basis)
