Wrong. Dota was made by Eul in ROC, who then left Wc3 for generic reasons. It was taken over and there were lots and LOTS of different stolen copies.

When TFT came, only 1 of the Dota's was to peoples liking. Today, we know this dota as "Allstars" and is made by Icefrog, who infact stole it from Eul.

As far as I know after EUL dota was taken by Guinsoo(who made tft version) and then by IceFrog(who sent all other maps into the Abyss). That's why in dota there are items called "Eul's scepter of Divinity" and "Guinsoo's scepter of Wise". If IceFrog leave the dota team the next one to take it will make an item "IceFrog's septer of Might"(or whatever)

well i was wondering because I heard about it a lot. I didn't thought that Ice frog by himself created everything there. I mean it's possible but so many ideas in one man...?
DotA is great map, with a lot of good stuff, but there are a lot better maps... And those new AOS's... please...
I wonder if there would be a small team of men which would create on "Hell of AOS"...
My opinion is that AOS's suck.

PS:"I heard that these maps you call AoS. but What does it stands for?"

AoS = Aeon of Strife ( was an old starcraft map)

And DotA mainly lives from a developing team as an idea factory + from the suggestion forum where the comunity posts ideas for heroes or items or just for the cosmetic of the map.

isn't better to play one awesome campaign for a month then one AoS over and over again...?
I played DotA for so long that forgot melee maps.
I want to say that AoS's are great but I love Campaigns better...
Although I'm making one for a long time... :)

it´s like that: If you like games that last 10 min- 1 h and you like to play with others you would play an aos or a td or whatever.

but if you want to play alone with a good story and 2-4 hours you should play a campaign, because it would be stupid if you would open wc3 for only 10 minutes to continue on the campaign, because you might not get the story that good in this way.

Before IceFrog there was guinsoo who made Allstars mode for Dota.

I almost always draw them. but when I have problem or lack of ideas I usually find i picture and create from it... I believe that icons/loadscreens should be made from scratch, but I can't think all the time... xe

it depends on your artistic skills wether you draw icons/loading screens or you base them on a model sreenshot( for units and heroes) or on existing wc3 icons/ images you like for the loading screen.

but drawing is always the better way

Eota is ok, but i didnt like some of the skins. but it was quite abit complicated, but the potato of the apocalypse was a funny touch.

its impossibly to beat dota unlessss:
1.blizzard supports you...unofficially
2.you get your own website
3.you get your own rappers that will rap for your song (dota has a rapper believe or it not)
4.get a foreign techno singer to sing a song that repeats over and over
5.host tournaments with prize money.

I'm still pretty sure that people could make a more popular version of DotA whatsoever

Well, someone could but it'd be pointless waste their time making an imitator map of DotA and trying to add new features to it when it's already being updated and hes tons of people working on the official version already.

Although, I know in Warcraft 3 Asia server, they play some AoS map, not sure if it's as good as DotA or anything.

I played it once but I couldn't really figure out anything, unfortunately because I couldn't see the Korean text so everything was blank. Other players didn't help much, because I couldn't see what they typed either(again, Korean text).

well i was wondering because I heard about it a lot. I didn't thought that Ice frog by himself created everything there. I mean it's possible but so many ideas in one man...?

Yes, like others said, the DotA site has thousands people submitting ideas weekly, from hero ideas, to ability ideas, etc.

Though, I'd say 80%-90 of the heroes in DotA are made mostly by Eul/Guinsoo/Icefrog(assuming he didn't steal ideas from anyone else)

I only know of a few heroes which were "fanmade":

1. Puk(latest new hero, won in the hero contest).

2. Centaur(old hero, someone suggested it back in version 5.30 or something).

3. Gambler(Someone suggested this hero, but Guinsoo altered the hero in all his abilities but kept the "gambler" theme. Due to the luck-based nature of his abilities, he was removed).

I am not sure if there are anything else, but rarely do any of the hero suggestions actually get implanted in the map, even though some are really good.

Though, I'm interested to know do some of the custom icons and custom models get used with permissions or credit given?

For example, the Chronosphere icon, did they ever get permission to use those icons without giving credit anywhere on the map?

I know some icons in DotA are specifically made and made for DotA but some custom icons are found somewhere on the hiveworkshop.

It's not really stealing if Eul and Guinsoo both said "I'm done with this, but I'll release a public-editable version for anyone who wants to continue this project"

For the record, it went Eul, Guinsoo, and now IceFrog. IceFrog doesn't even do most of the work. He just funds everything. He has a team of professional JASSers at his disposal.

EDIT: DotA has stolen nothing. If you look at the credits, they have almost 10 pages where they credit anyone who contributed to the map. And how can you steal the idea for a spell? Maybe he thought of it himself. I'm sure all of the spells in DotA can be thought up by any generic person. They're not exactly unique, nor are many other maps.
