Well you have my personal favorite, Europa Universalis IV, in fact I love it so much I've played 1,200 hours of it.

Now what you should keep in mind is that this is a grand strategy game and not a strategy game, so it's quite complicated and is over the head of most people. I remember when I first got it I said to myself, "I'm just getting this game because it's on a massive sale and I want to see myself fail, I'm never going to get serious with this game." Well I got it last October as a birthday gift to myself and I'm 1,200 hours into the game so it's pretty fair to say that I at the very least, somewhat like it. And when I say advanced I mean really advanced, if you've put 200 hours into this game you may be ready to start playing it for real but those 200 hours are learning, trust me you will not be a great player after 200 hours, you will not even be good, heck, I'm still not good. If this is more time than you want to dedicate I understand and that doesn't make you into a bad player, because mastering this game is a commitment and far from all people have the time for such a huge game.

Now to the question, does it train units into other units, yes. If you have lets say 4 regiments of cavalry you can upgrade them into better troops, maybe Winged Hussars if you're Eastern tech or you can train infantry into Gustavian troops if you're western tech and if you spend the military resources.

i could try warlords battlecry if i get it working in windows 7. the system in age of empires is just like with the troll and elf and knight and ogre in warcraft 2. the system is in later age of empires games as well like age of empires 3. the system i am looking for however is similar to battle realms and war wind. update on warlords battlecry: all units are invisible and buildings can not be constructed so it does not work perfectly in windows 7.

I have read the indie game Anomaly 2 allows you to upgrade and morph your units.

Developed by 11 Bit Studios, it is described as a "tower offense" game, in which you control your waves of aggressors via a real-time strategy format. You quickly morph your troops into war mechs with various abilities, to overcome various combat situations.
