What happens to all the data collected on the forums?

So I guess this might be a question that applies to all forums in general, but I was curious what happens to the massive amount of data on the hive?

Is it sold or used for commercial purposes?

Who gets to analyze it / mine it? Has there been any research that this forums data has been used for?

Where is all the data being stored?

Can anyone get access to it (without crawling the site)?

I suppose it's inside an sql database. When it comes to those questions, only Ralle knows. But I (highly) doubt that is the case.
