what can prevent warcraft 3 from starting

i have a problem that cause warcraft 3 to get stuck at loading. the issue isnt always present but now i can neither start the game nor the editor. can anybody help me.

You can try re-installing, but what were you doing last before it stopped working?

it doesnt actually stop working it just wont start some times but, when it doesnt start once the problem remains for a while. last time i could use the editor but the game didnt start but, since i didnt alter the files of the game to get it working there must be some kind of interference. minimum specs however is just a guideline but my pc meets recommended specs.(final fantasy 8 for example works on a pentium 90 but is rather slow there.)

I'm not sure if WarCraft III has problems working on Windows 8 or other new Linux or Mac OS. There's also the possibility that your firewall or antivirus software is not allowing acces and you could always solve that by setting the programs as exception in the firewall and antivirus settings. You could also try to run the program as administrator.

i am using vista and i have neither firewall nor anti virus.(both are broken.) the problem is also somewhat random in that it happens at random times. some times it helps to reboot but some times it doesnt help to reboot. the problem is currently gone but it will return and i need to know how to fix it when that happens. please help me out.

You could check if you have the latest updates from windows update or if the drivers on your graphic cards are updated, Nvidia cards are especially nepharius for causing problems.

updating the drivers for the graphics card isnt a solution because updating the drivers cause many older games to stop working.(i have tested that on another pc and i had to roll back to get many games working.) it is also unlikely that updating windows will help because of the nature of the issue.(updating windows would help with a constant problem but this is a random problem.) it could fix other problems but i unlikely to fix this problem. i need to find out what causes warcraft 3 to refuse to start.
