fat 32 is what I was talking about. And the problem is not that it's an iso, any file is allowed. The problem is that the maximum filesize on fat32 is 4 gigabytes. So if you have an iso file that's larger than 4gb, it can't be copied.

The only fix is to reformat your hard drive and change the file format to NTFS, or you could try to split the iso in multiple files.

thats sorta weird?
cause ive put many .isos on my external before and only like 1 in 20 did this...

and i cant format and change to ntfs cause its got like 100gig of photos and backups...
You won't have to format, its just a simple command. If you wish, you can keep a backup of some files, however in normal circumstances no files are lost or corrupted during this process.

To convert FAT or FAT32 to NTFS:

1. Click Start (from the bottom left)
2. Select Run from the Start menu
3. Type cmd in the textbox and click OK
4. When the command window opens, type the following command below:
convert c: /fs:ntfs

Change "c:" if you use a different drive than C:\, and let it do the job. Follow the instructions said and you'll be fine ;) .

Ummm... Or you could simply compress the ISO into multiple files which are under 4 GB...
This can be done with both 7z and winRAR and both .rar and .7z file types support the break down of an archive over multiple files.
It is true that 7z files are useful compressor which compress much better than ZIP (but since people prefer ZIP more for their preference, I use ZIP instead). Good idea too; I'll keep in mind for that. RAR files are good too, but I would prefer 7z better.

Good suggestions though.

I meant not so much as to compress, but to break it down into separate files.
Eg a 8 GB file could be broken down into 4*2 GB files this way which will logically easilly fit and can be extracted from to form the orignal 8 GB file from.

Also remember that .iso are not all the same size. CD .iso are only 600-700 MB while DVD .iso can range from 4 to 8 GB. Blu-ray .iso (if such thing is possiable) can range anywhere from 25 to 50 GB

can i convert an 8 gig usb to ntfs?
cause im sure it must be bigger than 10gig...
I think you can, I tried it on Windows XP SP3. But ever since I formatted my computer and now I have SP2 I can't really. Windows XP SP3 could possibly can, it did it on my USB.

i got sp3...
so ill try
but cant atm...
cause too lazy...
I used to have it, but my internet is too slow so I can't get it yet (I'll probably get it through some way else). Just some security fixes and some minor network additions. Its pretty easy to get, don't see why it is hard to get one; its free and its just going through webpages ;) . But in your case, probably later. :D .

i already have it... but just slack to make fat32 ntfs atm...
Oh. Not hard, but you could do it another time; you don't really have to make backups unless your cautious about it. Otherwise, okay but good luck getting the problem solved ;) .
