Holy crap your kidding me, i was gonna do a similar thing when starcraft 2 came out. Mine was more depressing than that though (My storyline i created long ago had the elves already extinct :p). Well good luck guys. Excellent project. XD

I have a suggestion of a unique race build though (works for horde-y kinda of race with lots of units like zerg). They're overall weak early game, but as they tech up, upgrades to previous tactics would be presented, basically adapting tech 1 units to fight tier 2. Of course they'll have tier 2 units, and up but those units are expnsive and will have expnesive units. Basically a growth kind of race. Hope you consider it, again good luck guys. Oh btw, i had this concept using goblins (which practically blow themselves up but grow in technology gradually)

I've been piling up ideas for something like this. If i remember some of them ill post it here. Feel free to use any of them if you like it. :p

I will.

Update on the FyrSprite : C&C plz

note that the fire around the model is done just for beauty rendering, this should be added as an Effect using the gpu fx or a particle system when blizzard ( if ever ) releases some tools

T.

both models are brilliant. i am loving them totally, and you got the skin and effects right on... But when i mean covered in fire i mean COVERED in fire... otherwise compleltely brilliant... Its my understanding that blizz will release some tools like anim exporters and model importers for custom maps upon, or near, release.

Everone else, good job.

Taylor, eres la polla en vinagre. (Something like "You're Awesome" in spanish).

Sorry about the delay with the story, I had a few personal problems and when I wrote the first version of the fall of Kul Tiras I erased it as soon as I readed it. First I thought about using a plague bombardment like TWIF suggested, but the Scourge has no naval nor air forces enough to infest the whole island effectively. Then I though about a direct attack, but the problem was the same. After that was the possibility of an undead legion marching underwater, but it would be too... naaaah.
So I asked to myself: "What would Kel'Thuzhad do?" And I came up with the idea for a new character and the solution to the problem at the same time.

"Finally, I've seen the light. I can see the fear in the face of the refugees. I felt pity for them and swore to fight against the scourge, but now I've seen the light. Now I remember an older and much more important oath. I've seen the light and now I'm ready to embrace the darkness."
-Last entry in the diaries of the paladin Sir Alpert of Lordaeron

It's said that two months prior to the fall of Kul Tiras, a drifting brigantine appeared near the coast of Kul Tiras. When the crew of the rescue ship boarded the derelict, they found a line of impaled sailors on the deck. It's unknown what was under the deck, as the rescuers' captain ordered to burn the ship as soon as he returned from inside. When the crew returned to the capital, Boralus, they refused to talk about the matter, even in presence of Lord Admiral Tandred. At the same time, an unnamed warrior who identified himself as "The White Knight" arrived the city and sworn to Lord Proudmoore that he would put his sword at the service of the citizens of Kul Tiras if the enemies of Lordaeron were to attack the island nation. Not knowing the secret meaning behind these words, Tandred accepted his oath.
Two weeks after the incident of the cursed derelict, it was discovered that some young men of the capital were breaking the curfew law, wearing black tunics and carrying symbols of dark meaning. Refusing to answer any questions, they were publicly punished and then jailed. Some of them commited suicide, others went into a trance and most of them simply started going mad and shouting in fear from monsters that only existed in their minds.
Fearing that the cult of the dammned could be behind the young men's actios, Lord Admiral Tandred ordered to transfer troops from other cities of Kul Tiras to Boralus to increase the capital's security, but that decision was the one that sealed the fall of the island, as the true members of the cult of the dammned were operating in the minor cities of Kul Tiras, where people started disappearing since then.
When word of the constant disappearance of citizens came to Lord Proudmoore, he ordered the immediate returning of the troops he mobilized to the capital, but it was too late. In only one night, most of the citizens of Kul Tiras except for the habitants of the capital were turned into undead and so were the soldiers that went to investigate the fate of the cities. A week after that, there weren't any living beign outside of Boralus' walls.
The army of undead soldiers and peasants advanced to the capital and laid siege to it, and in the top of the walls was the white knight. When all the undead of the island were gathered around the city, the white knight assasinated mercilessly the guards of the main gate and destroyed its hinges. Then, he dispatched his armor and crossed the field between the gates and the undead completely naked, while the spell that covered his true identity started to disappear, revealing the pale of death in his skin, the white of his mane, the scars that covered his body and the open wound that went through his abdomen to his back. When he arrived to the army, a few acolytes put him on an armor more fit for a scourge general while a ghostly sword appeared in his hand.
By the time the white knight was ready, the soldiers managed to put the gates back in their place, but Tandred knew that they wouldn't resist even the first wave of undead so he ordered the complete evacuation of Boralus' citizens while the soldiers held back the relentless horde of undead.
When Proudmoore was about to board his ship, he found the white knight in his way. Cursing the knight for betraying his oath, Tandred pull out his sword, but his opponent let him go while he smiled and answered him that the scourge were not the enemies of Lordaeron, but the serveants of its only rightful king and that the greatest service he could offer to the citizens of Kul Tiras would be to free them from the burden of life.
After the complete evacuation of Boralus, Tandred decided that the fall of the city wouldn't mean the fall of Kul Tiras, and so he claimed that the deck of every Kul Tiras ship would be sovereign territory of the nation, being his ship, the Windbreaker, the new capital.
Approximately half of the surviving citizens became refugees of the remmnants, while the rest of them became sailors and enrolled into the Kul Tiras navy.

The white knight, formerly known as Sir Alpert of Lordaeron, was a paladin that sworn to serve the menethil family during the second war, Through he was not one of the founding members, he was one of the first to join the order of the Silver Hand. When prince Arthas betrayed his father, Alpert sworn to fight against the scourge and started serving under the orders of Lord Garithos. When Garithos joined forces with Sylvannas and was betrayed by her, Alpert escaped with the refugees and joined one of the groups that would become the remmnants a time later. While fighting the scourge, he realized that his original oath was to serve the Menethil family, and that fighting the scourge means to fight against the serveants of Arthas, the last known Menethil. With that idea in his mind, he traveled to the plagelands, feeling the holy light abandoning him in every step. When he was travelling through the forsaken's territory, he was attacked constantly, and when the light abandoned him completely he fought with his sword, hands, feet and teeth. A few weeks after his departure from the refugees' camp, he arrived to Kel'Thuzhad's fortress barely alive, there he requested to the Lich an audience with his King. Sir Alpert accepted the treatment of the necromancers as it was the only way to survive the travel to Northrend. When he arrived the northern continent, he was already an undead, but he were not linked to the Lich King like the others, he was allowed to keep his mind intact. When the former paladin arrived at the Frozen Throne, he renewed his oath of servitude to the Lich King. In response, the king pierced his abdomen with the Frostmourne, taking part of Alpert's soul and giving him in exchange some of the same powers that the frostmourne has. His name was taken from him and he was given the title of The White Knight instead.

The white knight can be considered as a kind of Death Knight, but he's more like a walking frostmourne. Through he's linked to the Lich King, he preserves his memories and personality the same way that Kel'Thuzhad does. He doesn't takes his power from the Lich king, but from the souls of those he kills, becoming stronger the more he kills the same way that the Lich King's sword does.
His weapon is the Neir'Kilsh, literally, "The Souldrender", a ghost weapon that is just a materialization of the Knight's power.
The white knight's speciality is to attack the mind and soul of his enemy. For example, instead of summoning shadow monsters that sreds the flesh of his enemies, his powers would allow him to summon a number of nightmare beasts, creatures that are only visible to the ones they attack; the nightmare beasts' attack wouldn't do physical damage, but it would burn mana and have a high chance to paralyze the attacked enemy momentarily with each attack, wich can be useless alone but is a fearsome ability if the monster counts with backup. Suffering constant attacks to mind and soul can drive a soldier to start attacking allies and enemies indiscriminately if he doesn't commit suicide or go into a trance before.

EDIT:
@Pangahas: Awesome drawing as always.
@Kola: It's said "week", not "weak".

RE-EDIT:
Btw, that footman is based on my concept for the theramorian footman, isn't it?

Beastly thark, love it, and the new char. Turm can add it and things like it to lore.

+rep, brilliant, if you want to add up more white knight stuff, and what and where he is now, kudos.

Brilliant.

EDIT: also you could do some Dhom'Kavosh lore, give me an outline/concept before you write. they appearance is a mix of (google) the 'bloodletter' 'blood thirster' 'homm5 archdevil' they have flaming vents on their cloven feet, wrists, arms chest eyes, head, and spine... they have a head like the blood letter and wings... they are an even mix of magic, strength and speed...

and they need lore.

Ok then here's the agenda for the artists and a few thoughts I'd like to share..
•First, a separate thread for the project's concept art/2d art will be created. Studies, sketches and finished pieces goes here first.Approved artworks then goes into this main thread and to our website as updates. This is to keep things organized.
•Second, I need the other artists to tell me what they prefer to work on. If your good on making icons then do just that, if sketching is your thing go ahead, Got some logo ideas go. It's always easier to come up with something if you enjoy what your doing. And also try to focus on one thing at a time first, A single work done right is always better than having many things done half-baked. But then when creativity strikes, just go with the flow. Often times I find myself in a situation wherein I have too many ideas on my head and I can't focus on what to take on first. What I do is I just write them down or sketch them very quickly, that way I won't forget them and I could just go back on them at a later time as I finish the work I have in hand..
•Having said that I think as of the moment since the demon techtree and heroes is done it is best for us to come up with concepts based of that. Ok here's my work process when I conceptualize..
1.Know your subject, get as much info about it that could help you in designing. Background stories, setting, tendencies, personality etc, All these things all help with the believability of your designs. And also reference images are extremely helpful, google out..
2.Once I know what I want to make. I make quick sketches/thumbnails. Studies as they are called. At this stage details should be kept at a minimal, go from general to specific.Work out your forms but establish your design elements then make a couple more variations of it.
3. From your studies choose at least 2-3 that you like the most. Determine what makes them stand out and focus on refining those elements. You could mix match things if you like, find the right combination and chose a final design to pursue further.
4. Rendering and Finalizing- work flows when it comes to actual rendering varies from artist to artist. All I can say is go with what your most comfortable using be it pencil or photoshop, mouse or pen tablet..if it works for you then it works..As artists we should never be limited by the medium we use, they are all but tools for us to express our creativity and who we are as artists.

So goes my blah blah blah lol..

* TO ALL ARTISTS : For this week let's try to do concepts for the demon race.. But then again if something non-related ideas pop up just post em' then the team would crit. Guess That's about it for now I think, unless TWIF has something else specific that needs to be done, TWIF?

@TWIF> I appreciate the artistic freedom given..No questions thus far, the writers did a tremendous job with the write ups and are more than enough actually especially for a non avid Warcraft lore guy like me.I promise to devote more time reading more about them since it is very important when concepting stuff especially when we do the campaigns.
Anyways the projects' looking good so far..i say, let's take things a couple more notches higher!lol..

@Reaper51> Cool..Right on cue, exactly what I needed..thanks man..

Cool, new info. Uhm... I can foresee a lot of rebalancing work with that amount of skills per hero, but I think the work will be worth it.
About the techtree, it seems that the demons are weak at the start and the at Tier 3 and 4 have a lot of skill research available, maybe that would compensate the instability of having too much units, but in overall, it makes a 2-Barracks basic unit swarming rush completely unworthy. I think that there will be a lot of rebalancing work with the unit's spells too. I think it will be worth too.
About the items, I think the Heat Wave scroll should increase the demon's speed, allied or enemy, and slows the movement speed of any unit from other race. I think there should be a unit type that would be "Demon", only available to all the Burning Legion units and a few of the Council of the Outland units.
In overall, it seems that the demons will be the bost hard to master race, but also the most versatile. I foresee that it will be the prefered race by the melee players.

Well, aside from teir 1 that foucses on massing units, the demons are like the protoss where every unit is expensive and more powerful than other units to the EXTREME.

The skills stay the same except for the addition of the medium. what happens is that there are 'options' for each slot.

About items, the orcs already have a scroll of speed.

Not sure what you mean about demon unit type, outland will have no demons, as they have betrayed kel'jaden...

your right about the last thing.

About the Dhom'Kavosh, since they didn't appear in previous WarCraft, I think we could consider that they're the last addition to the Burning Legion, and that Lord Rhoggeir is the first Dhom'Kavosh to get promoted to an important position.
I will concentrate in the background of the entire species:

-Dhom'Kavosh means "Those who embraced Doom" in the original languaje of the race.
-Before becoming Dhom'Kavosh, the species were known as the Irilghan, inhabiting the world of Ragghevid.
-Before the third war, Kil'Jaeden found the world of Ragghevid and the Irilghan.
-Before the coming of kil'Jaeden, the Irilghan were a society with similirities to the classic greek society, with a democracy where only the citizens would participate, while most of the habitants of the cities would work for the citizens.
-Like the cassic greeks, the Irilghan citizens have a very individualistic culture, where every citizen must take care of himself, while the law is used more like a weapon than protection of any kind.
-The original Irilghan had red skin, hoofs as feet and white horns, but no flames.
-Near the start of the third war, Kil'Jaeden offered some Irilghan the taste of demonic power, and some of them accepted.
-As the Irilghan who accepted the demonic gift were more powerful than their enemies, more and more Irilghan pacted with Kil'Jaeden.
-Fearing that the Irilghan wo pacted with Kil'Jaeden could overpower them, a group of important Irilghan prohibited the demonic arts and condemned those who accepted the demonic power, calling them "Those who embraced Doom" (Dhom'Kavosh) and ordering their persecution and execution.
-Kil'Jaeden offered his help to the Dhom'Kavosh in exchange for their loyalty to the Burning Legion and their compromise to fight under his orders.
-With the help of the legion, the Dhom'Kavosh kills their enemies. The Irilghan who weren't citizens were called Dhomkrah'Arred, "Those who serve the Doombringers", (Usually called just Arred, "Those who serve") and transformed into a working force and first-line cannon fodder for the Dhom'Kavosh.
-As giving demon powers to the Arred and making them equals to the Dhom'Kavosh would humilliate the Dhom'Kavosh and surely start a civil war in Ragghevid, Kil'Jaeden decided to increase the power of both the Dhom'Kavosh and the Arred so the balance of power would be the same.
-Kil'Jaeden traveled to his homeworld, Argus, there he took The Flame of Sargeras, an everlasting magical fire that Sargeras gave to the Eredar as sign of his power.
-Kil'Jaeden divided the Flame of Sargeras and put it inside every Dhom'Kavosh and Arred. Since then, the flames burst constantly from parts of their bodies. The only thing that prevents the flame of Sargeras from killing the Dhom'Kavosh are their demonic powers.
-The Arred must be near their Dhom'Kavosh masters at all times so their demonic aura prevents the flame from burning them. If the Dhom'Kavosh dies, his serveants burns and die.
-The Flame of Sargeras inside every Dhom'Kavosh and Arred increases their fire spells' power (and gives them immolation?).
-If the Dhom'Kavosh were to betray Kil'Jaeden, only the most powerful ones would be able to survive to the flame without the support of Kil'Jaeden's power.

--------------------------------------------------------
Well, if Outland is not going to have demons then forget about it, but what I meant was a unit type like "Mechanic" or "Undead" in WC3. I think in SC2 it's included in Armor Type. Not all demons serve the Burning Legion, through.

About the skills, they're options but they're A LOT of options (compared to WC3, where your "options" were only depending on choosing 2 from 3 skills or the 3 of them to level up until level 6), and that means that if a hero is too overpowered or too weak compared to others there's much more rebalancing work in his skills.

Now, it's 5 of the morning here in Spain and I've been hearing Rammstein for the last... 7 hours.
I need to sleep, good night.

@ Tharkas - Good read as usual, keep it up. And also bout the book you mentioned if ever yeah in the future I'd like to make a colab with you.
@ Reaper - Did someone mention steampunk? hell yeah, can't wait to do some conceptart for that, I love that theme..
@ real138 - It worked, thanks a lot! better late than never..
@ Taylor - loving your models, hopefully in making models for the structures I could help some time.
@ kola - Yup just like we talked about, we'll make a separate thread for all of our concept arts. This is also to help people like Turminator when they do updates for our website, it would be much easier for them to access them coz this main thread fills up easily.
Yes do as much concept as you can for the units, as far as I know multiple versions of models is possible. So yes a couple more designs for each unit won't hurt. As for nodes initially I have thought of them as moons/satellites of planets, which in this case is the rift..So they rotate , float around the rift. Well of course I was speaking analogously.
By the end of this week I'll make the thread, when we have new artworks done. cheers.

Thark, acually, i was thinking that they might be an older breed of demon that kel'jaden hasn't called upon til now. but Lord Rhoggeir is a newer, but very powerful demonlord your correct...

About being discovered in the third war, and the 'arred' move the time waaaaaaaay back to one of first races. lol its funny you made a name for them, beause 'Dhom'Kavosh' acually means 'The Immortal Kings of the Burning Hell' in a language i created with the help of a linguist friend. Now as for these arred, the Dhom'Kavosh are rare and powerful. they (mainly as powerful heroes or powerful units ingame) have no weak versions at all... they prize trickery, sorcery, and strength and agility. (as demons) The weakest versions of them are The 'Stalkers' Ones who have surrendered blunt strength for speed and trickery. (maybe somthing for that)

LOVE EVERYTHING ELSE.

Kola, I'll talk to pangahas.

pangahas, talk to me for the general art/idea concepts when you need them.

Real, if you could give us some unskinned UI screenies to post that would be great.

T. good, but obviously not such an exaggerated form and jets of fire blasting out from the forearms and spine, eyes, head chest and feet... and ofc they have wings and a tail, and a more elongated head. but goooood people.

Edit, nodes are kindof like that yes.

@Turminator8:
This: Theramorian Footman Backstory
And this: The White Knight and The Fall of Kul Tiras
I think these two are the only two completed pieces of lore that have been approved for the project.

@TWIF:
Making corrections:

-Dhom'Kavosh means 'The Immortal Kings of the Burning Hell' in the original languaje of the race.
-Before becoming Dhom'Kavosh, the species were known as the Irilghan, inhabiting the world of Ragghevid.
-During the war of Draenor, Kil'Jaeden found the world of Ragghevid and the Irilghan.
-Before the coming of Kil'Jaeden, the Irilghan were a society with similirities to the classic greek society, with a democracy where only the citizens would participate, while most of the habitants of the cities would work for the citizens.
-Like the cassic greeks, the Irilghan citizens had a very individualistic culture, where every citizen must take care of himself, while the law is used more like a weapon than protection of any kind.
-The original Irilghan had red skin, hoofs as feet and white horns, but no flames.
-Near the start of the first war, Kil'Jaeden offered some Irilghan the taste of demonic power, and some of them accepted.
-As the Irilghan who accepted the demonic gift were more powerful than their enemies, more and more Irilghan pacted with Kil'Jaeden.
-Fearing that the Irilghan who pacted with Kil'Jaeden could overpower them, a group of important Irilghan prohibited the demonic arts and condemned those who accepted the demonic power, ordering their persecution and execution.
-Kil'Jaeden offered his help to the demonized Irilghan in exchange for their loyalty to the Burning Legion and their compromise to fight under his orders.
-With the help of the legion, the demonized Irilghen killed their enemies.
-Kil'Jaeden gave the demonic Irilghan the name of Dhom'Kavosh, while the Irilghan who weren't citizens were called Dhom'Arred.
-The Dhom'Arred became foot soldiers to the legion, becoming the currently called Stalkers, while the Dhom'Kavosh soon started to increase their position in the officer ranks of the legion.
-Through the civil war in Ragghevid was won by the Dhom'Kavosh, their number were drastically reduced, so Kil'Jaeden decided to increase their power by uncommon means.
-Kil'Jaeden traveled to his homeworld, Argus, there he took The Flame of Sargeras, an everlasting magical fire that Sargeras gave to the Eredar as sign of his power.
-Kil'Jaeden divided the Flame of Sargeras and put it inside every Dhom'Kavosh and Dhom'Arred. Since then, the flames burst constantly from parts of their bodies. The only thing that prevents the flame of Sargeras from killing the Dhom'Kavosh and Dhom'Arred are their demonic powers.
-The Flame of Sargeras inside every Dhom'Kavosh and Stalker increases their fire spells' power and burns near enemies, making them one of the hardest to kill members of the legion.
-During the First, second and third war the Dhom'Kavosh and Dhom'Arred were used as front line troops and mid-rank officers for the invasion of other worlds.

-If the Dhom'Kavosh were to betray Kil'Jaeden, only the most powerful ones would be able to survive to the flame without the support of Kil'Jaeden's power.
-Lord Rhoggeir is the first Dhom'Kavosh to reach a commanding position in the burning legion.
-While the Dhom'Arred are good serveants of the legion, the Dhom'Kavosh keeps their individualistic culture from their previous society, assassinating and betraying their allies and superiors for power.
