My opinion is:
1- Multiplayer delay(problem that wait takes longer time in multiplayer) can not be fixed because waits need to synchronized.
2- Continuing countdown on "waiting for players" can be a bug or feature I guess.
3- I believe its single player performance can be improved, and I really don't know why it could not run faster(eg 0.01 seconds) in single player.

I suppose a timer is already synchronized by nature. A timer object is created on each player's game, each player runs same game and timer increases with each game tick.
