No, you just apply the bone structure to the mesh, it should do the rest for you.

Would it be possible to stretch the guitarist's arms even more? A lower-slung axe would provide a more modern feel, as opposed to the "Buddy Holly armpit style."

Lengthening the guitar's neck might also allow room for another fret using your new texture, although doing so may make it appear more like a bass.
